I've always been confused about why there is so much hatred against homosexuals in Jamaica and other Caribbean nations. This is not to say that it doesn't exist elsewhere, but during my life I've always heard more viciousness against them from Caribbean people.

I'd really like to understand.

Spinster,

Two words, racism and propaganda. Make that three words, hypocrisy. Most Africans in the Caribbean don't even talk about those behaviours, let alone give up emotional energy and hate.

Maybe mainstream media should look elsewhere for "hate".

In Saudi Arabia, homosexuals can be killed by the state. Never heard of any chi chi bwoy crew mobilising to disrupt the Saudi economy or highlight Saudi law. Chopping off heads, is apparently less serious than Africans making money from their own culture via reggae music!!

Saudis can even crash planes into buildings in New York; don't watch that!

Breadfruit my bruddah, cosign to the fullest. All the times I've been JA and St Lucia I've never heard fassyhole business being discussed because it's not a topic that even needs to be. Just like how wi nuh waste time fi chat bout beastiality and none of these other disgusting practices. For what??!? We got other pressing issues, unlike what that fool Martin Seaton tried to promote on Galaxy radio a few years back....

Plus I want to reiterate the point a sista made in this weeks New Nation in the letters section(even though they had to bloody promote IR in one of their articles but that's another story) that people just have to bloody accept that we as African Caribbeans/Africans simply bun battybwoy business and leave it at that and stop trying to force us to accept this ungodly, disgusting, unnatural practice. sometimes it seems like it's alright for the whole world to despise us for being African, but when we collectively stand against something that goes against our being, everybody starts to have a panic attack and wants to 'civilise' us. F*ck outta here......

Respect @Breadfruit.....Here on BNV we need to start using the word Enslaved as somone had earlier commnted because that is what actually happened..if we were we would be more subservient but the irrational things we get up to indicates we are dealing with a culture completely alien to us even though we try and some are convinced they are more English than Tea(which is kenyan by the Way)

For real Astmartins!! If you study mainstream literature/media that talks about the Maafa (European Slave Trade), kidnapped Africans are not called Yoruba, Igbo, Ashanti etc........ even before they leave Africa; they call us "Slaves". This takes away from the fact that our ancestors were people with a culture. This takes away from the fact that they had been kidnapped and forced to the Americas to be killed. Calling our ancestors slaves makes the european feel better about their history; Africans are slaves or lesser human beings by default.

As you say, our people have never stopped being African and there lies the problem for the oppressor. How can they truly destroy us and make us into beings they can do absolutely anything they wish to, without Africans fighting back?? That's what a real slave is, so we should stop using that word for real!

But the fact that too many of our people see European culture and its trappings, as the one and only reality worth dying for, is prolonging the insanity that has been imposed into our peoples lives, for too, too long.

Peace

I'm sorry, but I'm still confused. Maybe I'm not understanding. What's with all the hate against them? To me, it's live and let live.

It is because they don't want homosexuality to be normalised in time and accepted in their country.
People will still do whatever they want to do behind closed doors though but they won't be so public about it like they can be in the US and in the UK. They also probably won't be prosecuted if they are found out either.
I don't believe in gays being killed or beaten either but i think it is up to JA to choose the rules that they see fit for their country.

That "man" though has not had any surgery down below (I don’t know else to say lol). I think that he may have had his breasts removed but he has not undergone the full surgery. I think on official papers this person would not be classified a man yet because he has not even had the surgery. The fact that he has not undergone the necessary surgery does not make this that much of a news story to me.

I'm just trying to highlight fragments of what all that liberal permissiveness nonsense can lead to if allowed to fester in Africa and the Caribbean
