Will Smith Private School: Will Smith School “The New Village Academy Of Calabasas” | Hip-Hop Crunch

Will Smith is investing $1 million in the construction and development of a private school near his Calabasas, California estate.

“The academy will be run privately, and will include prekindergarten through grade 6.”

Will has leased Indian Hills High School campus, which he will rename The New Village Academy of Calabasas.

“Will paid $889,000 to lease the campus for three years, plus he’ll cover all the additional costs such as utilities,” an insider told The National Enquirer.

According to a spokesperson, The New Village Academy, which will operate under the motto “Spiral Up,” will be “open to all races, religions, and creeds.”

The New Village Academy boasts:

Organic low-fat breakfasts and lunches with no fried foods or refined sugar, as well as a cirriculum, developed in cooperation with Will and Jada, featuring instruction ion Spanish, Technology, and Robotics.

Tuition will range from $7,500 to $12,500.

Free schools maybe, but at £6000 per term per pupil, it maybe a money spinner.

I'm a big fan of Will but Madonna beats him hands down here...I was excited at first because i thought he was giving some underpriviledged kids from the Hood a chance until i saw the tuition fees not that they need the money.....
Beggars Belief!!...it could be the old argument why give Africans that resource and help whilst there are black people suffering here in the good old USA...well if they can get off their high horse they would see they have a somwhat better life and a accountable government compared to a lot of kids in parts of Africa through no choice of theirs living under corrupt and at most times violent dictators..

Because we don't want or need Madonna's help.......maybe it's just me but it's getting VERY insulting to an ENTIRE CONTINENT to be talked about as " Poor Africa this or Poor Africa that". Since when can a low life "i don't want to grown old gracefully" cow like Madonna an educator? America is full of poverty, why isn't she opening so called saviour schools over there? If it is publicity she needed regardless, she could have given to her poor native country of Italy(yeah, i know, Italy has a huge problem with HIGh unemployment etc) or her country of birth the US, but something tells me that the cow KNEW that AFRICA would generate MORE publicity because it has become synonumous with POVERTY! You see, the whole world is flooding with riches that somehow Africa just seem to miss it.....It's getting so pathetic and at worst very insulting and demeaning.

Will annoys me....i think hanging around with the likes of Cruises and the Beckhams has got him forgetting himself a little.....i don't know what it is but since he made those stupid comments about movies with none African females leads seem to be more acceptable(i can't remember it word per word, but i am sure it was on that line of thought), he see to reek of stupidness. The mods decesion to close the Madonna thread was a strange one (definately not the first one or the last). Sometimes this medium is run like that belonging to a true dictatorship. Fair enough maybe you can't have total freedom of speech if you wish to maintain an ethos, but there needs to be a healthy balance else you become the extreme alternative which stinks to high heaven as an environment.

My only objection to her opening a school is if it's another all girl one,boys need, education too for God's sake!

And as far as people wailing about why doesnt she open one in the US there are poor people ther too reh,reh,reh.America is the richest country in the world,it should be able to take care of it's people ten-fold,parts of Africa are in the state they are in as direct result of America+UK etc's foreign policies,so if she wants to put some of her cheddar back into Africa she not only has a right to,she supposed to!

paying $12,000 for an education you can get for free? sounds like Will smith is being "Anal" about this.

He'd be better off Constructing after school clubs for inner city youths, than milking rich folks.

i see no problem with will opening a private school. i am sure many middle and upper class folk will utilise the school and pay the fees. Plus many private schools have scholarships so who knows some of the those poor folk ya'll love talking about may get a look in. if not they will just have to do with the state system unless of course the parents knock heads and take over or open up a school of their own.

why should everyone open a school in Africa. I didnt realise mama Africa was one big ol charity basket. air drops at the ready. people need to give Africa a bit more credit. what about the rich Africans living in Africa...why dont they open up a school if thats what is needed

The school is more or less already opened. This story broke last year.

Smith as a degree in Education (or something like that) He home schools his own children.

All he his doing his cashing in on his own needs/requirements...Apparently he wants to 'revolutionize public education in America'

But having read his comments on education in the states I believe that it will work out (although it is bound to hit some rough roads in its early developement...He will need to keep a close eye on financing and general running as there will be plenty ready to shoot him down.

As for the significance to Africans and our cause? It will be full of celebraties and wannabes children.

If my comments had any influence on the closure of the Madonna thread (it should have been moved not removed) Then let me state for the record that this thread is just as lame...infact more so...Paticularly since the subject matter seems to be making comparisons with Madonna's adventure and Smiths...All things be equal....
