Obama's the Candidate-Now What? -

The contest for the Democratic Party nomination is done. Obama is now the nominee and it feels a bit surreal. It was easy to get excited with the Clinton's as an opponent. Going against McCain does not seem nearly as exciting. Will the energy be rekindled as the less enthusiastic voter is sought? Some general election voters vote every four years and that's it.
The message to woo those people will be more moderate and the contest will shift to less exciting but more important meat and potatoes issues. McCain wants a hand-to-hand combat style contest that takes Obama out of his element of bright lights and big crowds.
Can we keep the energy going as we go forward?

I’m a little burnt out from the primary, but the thought of “Bush Lite” in the white house is enough to keep me motivated. If Obama pushes the right buttons during these debates, maybe we'll get to see that legendary McCain temper we've heard so much about.

Well, we have to rethink what we have traditionally thought about "White" supremacy. That is what his candidacy means to me. "Black" folks have to realize the lies they have told themselves. We had the debate here, in this very forum. Would "Whites" nominate a "Black" Democratic candidate for the President of the United States? I kept saying. . ."of course". And folks just didn't want to believe it.
Which to me, means we do not fully understand "White" people or "White" supremacy. Why do we think they are wholly obsessed with our skin color? Do we know what "Whites" really want? Do we understand what "White" supremacy is all out?

Dogon..I disagree with you...White supremacy does not exist only in ONE area of activity, ie Politics....Even with the election of a BLACK President, white supremacy will still exist... Just like the election of Nelson Mandela did not wipe out Aparthied in South Africa.... What Obama's presidency will do imo is give the Illussion that Racism has finally been overcome...and that would not be true!

Kunjufu, I think that was actually my point to you.
Well, it doesn't matter. I think we need to pull away from thinking that "White" supremacy cannot evolve. It is ever-evolving and ever-changing. "White" supremacy is about keeping "Whites" in power and in control. It is race-based. Meaning that it isn't worried about letting individual Africans have access to some authority. "White" supremacy is worried about the well-being of the group. And as long as "Whites" have the most, work the least, and are respected above and beyond every other grouping, then everything is good.

As what I told Gmahogony at the beginning of this process.Whites will vote their economic interests .
I view it like the NCAA or NFL team that hires the Black coach when he is the fourth or fifth choice after other candidates blew them off.America is now the Detroit Lions or Fulham braintrust looking for a coach.

True that.

Almost thirty million Americans are on food stamps. That's nearly 10% of the.population.You can see adjustments across the board. My neighboehood is full of foreclosures its not even funny.
Obama has some very far reach economic stimulus plans. If half of them work out I'll be shocked.

Lord knows that even white people "hope" that he can turn things around. but i was telling someone a month a so ago that the president of the us is basically a ceremonial job.
if he is lucky he can like ronald reagan filabust his way through and make the people think all is well. reagan did the best acting in his life for the 8 years he officiated the white house. the great bull shyter i call him.
i see a lame duck administration but hope otherwise.
i hope he can bring us up out of these darj times that is coming upon not just the us but the world....
God help us because we are certainly trying to destroy ourselves......
