Default Chinese South Afrikans Reclassified "Black" - 20-06-08, 08:49 PM

The High Court in South Africa has ruled that Chinese South Africans are to be reclassified as black people.

It made the order so that ethnic Chinese can benefit from government policies aimed at ending white domination in the private sector.

The Chinese Association of South Africa took the government to court, saying its members had been discriminated against.

An estimated 200,000 ethnic Chinese live in South Africa.

The association said their members often failed to qualify for business contracts and job promotions because they were regarded as whites.

Let the "Chinese South Africans" be 'black' (ROTFL).

Azanians are Africans anyway....

This is no big ting. Nonsense like this only reinforces Ligali's point on how labelling a people a colour just causes needless and unnessecary confusion.

I agree. We need to stop identifying with color and more with culture. I hate even saying the terms "black" and "white". They are intrinsically racist, so it behooves Afrikan people to use racist terms and while expecting to eradicate racism. It is almost a pathological self-fulfilling prophecy on our part to continue identifying by terms that were constructed by Indo-Europeans (or others in general) instead of our own culture and being.

This sounds stupid. I don't understand why they have to classify them as Black just to get benefits from past discrimination. If they were victims of apartheid, wouldn't they have the opportunity to benefit without saying they are black. Unless this article is saying ONLY Blacks qualify.
