MANDELA BIRTHDAY CONCERT IS A WHITEWASH

Wednesday, 25 June 2008 08:57

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADIBA!"
Nelson Mandela birthday party to be held in Hyde Park is set to be a grand
occasion and Mandela the most recognised and universally admired
politicians on the face of the globe will be celebrating his 90th birthday
with a galaxy of music and entertainment stars. These types of events are
always fairly exclusive affairs and no doubt there will be a majority white
crowd in attendance. This demographic will also be reflected on stage with
virtually no African acts set to appear.

Mr. Lee Jasper spokesperson and presenter for London's only African based
radio station Voice of Africa Radio.com and 94.3FM stated that:

"This is a rerun of the Geldof concert a few years ago. Once again we see
no real African presence other than Eddie Grant and Jamelia both of whom
are of African descent. We would have expected a better and more inclusive
line up than this. This tendency of African exclusion reflects the
paternalism of the event organisers whose attitude seems to be let's hold a
largely white and European celebration for Mandela. African artists and
media have by and large been excluded from the event. It's a disgrace to
tarnish Mandela's birthday in this way particularly given London's African
community's solid support to establish a statue of Mandela in Parliament
Square".

Lee Jasper is available for interview. If you will like to arrange an
interview or any enquiries, please contact Amma Sem at the VOAR press
office on 0208471 9111 / 07950 819 519 or email info@voiceofafricaradio.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Now if I fling in again what a true 'sell out' this man is some people are going to jump up and say that I shouldn't say that..how we must respect him blah blah... But really wonder if even Mandela's dieheart supporter are now beginning to question the integrity of the man.....after::

he Dash Naomi Campbell from his event, yet allowed a woman who gloried her husband convicted felon, a woman who glories drug taking and whose behaviour in recent weeks surpassed campbells on every level... yet she can sing at the event and Campbell gets dashed!!!

As Lee jasper points out that once again another African event is put on without an adequate proportion of AFRICANS participating in the event...

But here is the kicker for me..I asked a SOUTH AFRICAN this very question when they challenged me on my views on Mandela... I asked WHY isn't Manadela in South Africa being feted by the leadership of the ANC.. Mbeki, or the African people for his 90th, for that matter has no one else not questioned why no member of the ruling ANC was at Mandela's birthday bash in London? Or for that why was this bASH held in LONDON surely it should hasve ben held in South Africa... Isn't it a bit strange that a man I keep being told did so well for his country is NOT being celebrated in t5he country he spent 27 years in jail for....because i find it really strange to put it mildly...

Whitewash? white crowd? - hmmm, it must have cost money to get in or something. Same reason why you won't be seeing a nicca at Glastonbury.

Selllouts come in many guises, including the Lee Jaspers in this world who use opportunities like this to bring attention to himself. And sellouts will collude with people they consider to be sellouts to fit the agenda. The first thing I would say to Jasper is he needs to shut his mouth.

As far as I see it Mandela's birthday party was an organised event and who ever is footing that bill pays for it and decides who they want to attend and where it will be held. I don't believe for one second it will be the only gesture to come his way, some will just be a more private affair.

Poor Naomi though, she probably reminds him of sellout Winnie. If Nelson is a sellout, as a man who tried I fully believe he has simply lost faith in his own people and them never being able to do anything for themselves so this is the best he can do now, no different to asking the government for handouts, council flats and lessons in how to be a dad.

There's nuff crutches man who will use this to earn stripes, battyflies, the whole lot of them. Sellout? as is always the case, more a case of takes one to know one and they are usually the first ones to talk ala Lee Jasper.

Mandela birthday celebrations to be organised by foundation

JOHANNESBURG – Only the Nelson Mandela Foundation and its sister organisations are authorised to arrange 90th birthday celebrations for Nelson Mandela, the foundation said on Tuesday.

The foundation, in a statement, dismissed attempts by some individuals attempting to convince major media and event companies that they were authorised by the former president to stage concerts and other events.

“... we would like to inform the public that no other company, organisation and individual, in South Africa or abroad has been authorised to arrange Nelson Mandela birthday celebrations,” the foundation said.

“We would like to alert the public that such claims are fraudulent.”
The foundation said some individuals were claiming to be Mandela’s relatives.

“We further ask for the public’s help in ensuring that Madiba’s 90th birthday can be celebrated with the dignity he deserves.”

Events commemorating Mandela’s 90th year were being developed around the theme “A Celebration of Ideas” and were being finalised in consultation with the former president’s family and the African National Congress. – Sapa

The event was organised to support Mr Mandela's HIV/Aids charity '46664', named after his prison number, and comes 20 years after the London hosted another concert for the statesman when he was still behind bars for his stand against apartheid.

'Twenty years ago, London hosted a historic concert which called for our freedom,' a frail-looking Mandela told the waving crowd after they had sung him 'Happy Birthday'.

'Your voices carried across the water and inspired us in our prison cells far away.

'As we celebrate, let us remind ourselves that our work is far from complete. Where there is poverty and sickness, including Aids, where human beings are being oppressed, there is more work to be done.

'Our work is for freedom for all ... We say tonight, after nearly 90 years of life, it is time for new hands to lift the burdens. It is in your hands now, I thank you.'

- The number 46664 also played a big role on Friday. It served as the name of the concert, for which 46,664 tickets were officially sold. All proceeds were to go to the fight against AIDS. Mandela's anti-AIDS campaign 46664 began with a similar concert a number of years ago.

Basically when it comes to raising funds, the last people you better trust your bet with is black people, leave them to their cheap talk like who sold out who - though by all means make them feel welcome come the the free bashment.

Now it could be me...but it appears to me that the above analysis has more holes than a prostitutes knickers..... Correct me if i'm wrong bu wasn't manadela the ex leader of the ANC, isn't the ANC the ruling party of South Africa.... Isn't South Africa the economic and military super power in Africa? Better still isn't South Africa where all the diamond n shit come from?

So if Manadela was such a huge success why can't the ANC support his charity, if Mandela didn't sell out and the ANC the masters of their own destiny why can't the ANC fund the cause that so close to this mans heart?

K - you've gone again mate...as a social scientists your questions are too superficial for me. How do you know they haven't supported it, how do you know their money pot is better spent elsewhere, how do you know raising funds for charities isn't their priority right now?

Still, Hopefully someone knows but can you remind me who made this quote?

"If you are looking for a sellout you will find one but don't let that detract away from the real question, why are you looking for one, to benefit African advancement or yourself?"

Incognito: if the ANC were supporting Mandela the FACT is they would have been mentioned....they would be on stage with Mandela and better still there would be pictures of the ANC leadership at his dinner ....thinking about it the ANC would be riding the propoganda to demostrate how they were helping their own... THATS how I know!!!

As for your other nonsense i won't dignify it with a response!!!

K - but you did dignify it with a response, by saying you won't, you should have done like before, just pretend you didn't see it

K - you know too much without knowing anything, FACT is not what you want to believe man. You can't be selling people out like that based on your superstitions.
