video:49 yrold left t'die on ward floor...shocking -
02-07-08, 11:39 AM
Staff at New York’s Kings County Hospital took more than 40 minutes to help the patient - who died an hour later last June.
Hospital staff have now been accused of covering their tracks as the CCTV footage appears to contradict their account of the 49-year-old's treatment.
Donna Lieberman, executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, said: “Thank God for the videotape because no one would have believed this could have happened.
“There's a clear possibility of criminal wrongdoing with regard to recordkeeping, and that has to be investigated.”
Green was taken to the unit for "agitation" but keeled over at 5.32am, records the tape.
Despite being only THREE FEET from an observation window no one helps her.

A security guard strolls past Green lying facedown on the floor with her legs splayed at 5.53am.
Astonishingly he looks at her for 20 SECONDS - then callously walks away.
At 6.00am Green is seen writhing on the floor, thrashing her legs.
However her medical log says she was "awake, up and about, went to the bathroom" at 6.00am.
Green stops moving at 6.08am and moments later a second security guard is seen pushing his chair into camera view.
He also fails to help but looks at Green and leaves.
A female patient finally brings a clinic staffer to check Green and calls for more help.
The security guards have since been fired along with four other staffers.
A federal lawsuit filed last year in Brooklyn alleged neglect and abuse of mental patients at the hospital.
The suit sparked an investigation by the Brooklyn US attorney's civil rights unit which uncovered the horrifying tape.

Saw this yesterday. That hospital seems to be notorious for horrible treatment of patients.

Story seems a bit over exaggerated, there were two other people in the room at the time and the guard might not have known what to do in that situation some people just freak out seeing stuff like that. Plenty of things go on in hellish places like hospitals and mental wards but you have to go easy on the people who work there at times people like that end up overloading on the things they've seen and suffer from all kinds of stress.
Not to take from the incident, obviously a bad thing.
I wanted to know if the Dagara elders could tell the diffrence between fiction and reality. The elders did not understand what a starship is, they did not understand what the fussy uniforms had to do with anything but they recognized in Spock a Kontomble of the seventh planet... they had never seen a Kontomble that big.

Black Lion, you cannot make excuses for these people. Besides, there is nothing all that shocking and scary about seeing someone fall out on the floor. They should've done their job.

And how can you say it's over exaggerated??? Three hospital staff walk into see a woman lying on the floor dying and they walk off and do nothing about it.

Yesterday, for me, was almost a depressing day. Perhaps, I'm watching too much television.
First, there was the report showing a patient in a wheelchair. I believe it was also in a hospital. A worker, a black woman, graps the handle of the wheelchair and dumps the patient (who was paralyzed) onto the floor. I don't know if video is available but I really don't know if you guys would want to see it.
After that, came the report about this poor woman in the hospital. If that woman was on the street and keeled over, most (though not all) areas would call emergency - 9-1-1. But she was already in the hospital! A hospital! Any hospital staff, seeing a woman sprawled on the floor and doig nothing, should be fired. Any hospital staff, who is shocked into inaction at seeing a woman sprawled on the floor, should be fired. (not to be trite, but I remember in the movie, The Godfather, when the counselor to The Godfather character was fired, because he failed at the most crucial moment. The idea being, you only exist for this moment.) The hospital should be held accountable, although, I fear that, if we research this hospital, it will be one of those last options hospitals for folks who have nowhere else to go.
Finally, last night, there was a video report about a black woman who, fearing that her inpatient father was being abused, videotaped hospital staff beating the hell out of her elderly father, by a black worker.
Did the fact that, in all three cases, the perpetrators were black, have anything to do with how I felt. Probably. I don't know if it should, but it does.
It was a bit much for one night.

Yeah, sad to say I've seen what those people, the workers in those wards go through kind of give them the benefit of the doubt until its apparent what happened exactly.
Not much to stick up for in either case, takes a different kind of person to work in those places. Can see the security guard freezing up and simply not knowing how to handle the situation not sure about the people who witnessed it though, human instinct to help someone whos injured.
