I DID IT! Fourteen days overdue. My baby girl was born on the 31st August 2005. She is an absolute princess and well worth the drama and pain. Believe me. We have given her a Shonaname, and it means 'Be Happy' as my partner is from Zimbabwe. My St Lucian family is slowly getting used to it.
I went into hospital on Saturday 27th of August for inducement. I was induced three times before they finally put me on a drip on the morning of the 30th. Contractions started coming thick and fast and I had every pain relief availableas a water birth was out of the question. I started off with my breathing techniques which worked well, then when the contractions intensified I moved the pain relief up a notch. Starting with gas and air, pethidine and moving finally onto an Epidural. For some reason my waters refused to break, thats why it took so long. Then the cervix refused to thin out, part of the cervix was still thick after 24 hours on the drip.
Being in a labour ward was a huge experience for me. It was very scary. I was in there for 32 hours and during that time I heard approximately 5 women going through very painful labours. One particular crazy woman was stressing me out. She did not want any pain relief apart from gas and air. She was screaming the place down and it was obvious to everybody she was not managing the pain at all. After 10 hours of her screaming they managed to persuade her to have an epidural. It was a complete relief to me, whose waters had yet to break.
At one point my midwife considered a c-section as things were not moving along and they were concerned about baby's heart rate fluctuating at times. I have always wanted a natural birth but at that point I just did not care and just wanted babyout. The consultant however wanted me to hold out for a natural birth as it would be better for me. They gave me three hours. Those three hours was the longest three hours of my life.
I eventually managed to give birth naturally. The last hour was very active. The epidural they gave me was a 'mobile' one, which meant that it took away the pain of the contractions, but it allowed me to feel the pressure of baby's head coming through. Once I started feeling the pressure, the birth was very quick.
She is absolutely beautiful, surprisingly she weighed 6lbs 15oz (when the doctors were concerned that she would be a low birth weight) and she did not cry. She was very calm and her eyes were wide open and she looked like she was staring straight at me.
I am a very proud new mum!
Nia

After giving birth, did anybody's belly get really dark in comparison to the rest of them? confused3
My sister's did...in fact my neice is two months now and her belly is STILL dark. It is so weird-she looks like a different person from the waist down.

My belly has gone really dark too. I also just noticed the line was not straight this morning. It is very comforting to know that this is normal.

@mistriladi: Thanks, Congratulations to you too on the second and weclome to the village . You never know, you may get to use some of those clothes so the shopping will not have been in veinconfused3. Hope you get enough rest on your time off.
@MamZora: Thanks for sharign your story. Although yuo plan to have naother child in three years, it will probably feel like the first time again. It's weird but you expect to remember everything. I keep asking myself ifcertain oparts were likethis before:?
@Nia: Maaan 4 days over. That protein should be looked at closely. I don't think it's good if you have this in yoursamples and they make baby stay in you for too long. Have any fluids come out? I ask because I had a scare last week and they said that if there was protein they may have to induce . I know I wouldn't mind giving birth early but naturally though.

I had trace of protein in my urine throughout my pregnancy, without the signs of high blood pressure. It was the first time that it was a lot of protein. There were no fluids though. Being induced is no joke. It is undignified and painful. I thank G

od for my partner, cause without him and his optimism, I may not have got through it. I understand now what you mean by natural, I guess being induced is not natural. I did however manage to give birth vaginally. I wasn't sure why they wanted me to avoid a c-section.

Does anybody know what the risks are to having a c-section?

I know the feeling well...aren't they just so cute at that age... i used to poke mine on the d/l just to wake them up..tha way i could hold them... Then there is the 'mirror' thing that I'm sure ALL parents do...to see if the child is still breathing..lol.Â* Â*But my best bit about this age is their feet I love smelling baby feet....

Well done, Nia!clp)
Congrats to you and your partner on the birth of your beautiful baby girl. She's worth all the pain of labour.
Nothing better than the smell and feel of a newborn baby.
Make the most of this time. They grow up all too quickly.....
Once again, congratulations.

banana.gifbanana.gifCONGRATULATIONS NIA!! Your experience sounds very similar to my sisters Her waters broke on the Friday...then they started to increase etc etc they induced her on the Sunday and the baby was born early Monday morning. Little bambino didnt want to come out at first LOL babies!
LMAO@kunjufu. Funny you should say that because I always get the urge to do that around cute babies, especially my neice...Although for the first month of her life, whenever i was around (i.e peeked/peered at her, came into the same room as her) she would always wake up LOL it was soo funny, my sister thought it strange and i loved it. I love the smell of babies period-but it is their breath that I love the most. It's milky and sweet and just aaahhhh.
My sister has recently bought a dummy/pacifier for my neice, mainly because my neice is being breastfed but sometimes she moans and wants to be on the breast but doesnt actually want to eat-she just suckles for comfort and we r travelling abroad next week. My sister always vowed she would never give her child a dummy, but she realised that she would have to, in order to do things around the house and to make it easier for her when we are abroad. N e body else experience this? Would anybody else give their child a dummy/pacifier?
*Hmmm...i think i need to stop visiting this thread. Im 22 y/o and Im broody :P
