hello

i am a newcomer on this site, i need help from all ladies and men, i am looking for original black dolls for a girl under 8 years old. For what?

Not for playing obviously but i realise that when you go for a black doll the only black thing she has is the colour, the features on the face are not black, the style, the close nothing looks like a caraibbean or an african.

The only one which have a face of a black doll is the Bratz, they have big eyes , big lips (like me) but i don't like the clothes i think at 8 years old we don't need a doll with a mini skirt and high shoes, and make up.

If you know any place, where i can buy some let me, i want my daughter to have a white baby doll as well as a black one.

thank you for your help

there was a website i knew of a while back that sold black dolls, books and games from africa and the carribean, though for the life of me i cannot remember the name of it. I think they were based in south london somewhere. Have you tried "googling" Black dolls?

I might get one myslef, purely for the fact that i never had one when i was growing up!

hello

than you for your message, yes i did some "googling" but i have to admit i am fussy i like to touch the product , there some sales by mail for shops in US mainly.

Also, i would like to go with my daughter so that we can choose together. it is amazing, with so many black population in UK you can't finc a rasta doll or a yoruba doll or an ashamti doll in Toys R Us.

Anyway ...

i can relate to what your saying about want ng to actually see the product before you buy. But if you are waiting for one of those large ty retailing chains like Toys r us, woolworths or smiths to start stocking black dolls you will be waiting a while!!! at best, they will direct you to the black bratz doll. At worst, if you ask for it, they will tel you there is not enough demand. Then you would probably have to get up some kind of petition to show that there IS a demand. then they would probably have to import it from america, so it would end up more expensive than the white dolls. c'est la vie.

If you're happy with thefeatures of the Bratz dolls but not the clothes, just make or buy more suitable clothes for it. You could help encourage creativity in your daughter by helping her design and make dolls outfits.

I really like that idea.niceone.gif
The fact there are still noAfrican dolls that actually resembleAfrican people (even vaguely) is, to say the least, disgraceful. Imyself have been thinking about where to purchase African dolls for my neice when she gets a bit older, so that she has toys that look like her-and not a European with dark skin. The closest I have come is finding dolls made out of cloth: or plastic dolls wearing traditional dress:

There are also companies out they who will duplicate your own child's face from a picture to make the doll. You can't get any more authentic than that.

Not too much by way of features, unfortunately. Aisha dolls are made by a Black-owned company.

I have seen beautiful black dolls in male and female fashion by a company called Integrity toy Dolls.

I only know of one store in east London that carries them, thus far
