I think traditonally this has been a topic our parents have considered taboo in our households.

Is this a good thing or do modern times mean this conversation is now vital.

As long as you don't use that phrase. It can be confusing!

Birds lay hard shell eggs which chicks hatch out of. Bees are asexual and have clones or some nonsense like that with queens and whatnot... You'll only baffle a kid using analogies like that LOL

I was babysitting my 6 year old niece on Saturday, she wanted to watcha DVD.I proceeded to put one on, then she said she didnt wanna watch one with the dirty thing in. I asked what was the dirty thing? She wouldnt say, so i asked her to write it for me, she wrote the word SEX.

I was really open and not embarrased.I explained to her, that sex is not dirty, its just something that grown ups do when they are in love and like each other alot.I also explained that grown upshad sex to make babies and also to show each otherhow much they cared for each other. She retorted that her parents then must have had sex to make her. I agreed and told her that sex couldnt be nasty if something as beautiful as she was created.

That seemed to satisfy her, she then skipped of to the kitchen and proceeded to raid my freezer for ice cream! I learnt that day, that children are bloody smart, can take in and understand more than we know and I now I want to be blessed with one. They truly are little miracles!

My wife and I have 3 boys. And I have always been very honest with them. Even though the youngest is only 7, he has heard me or my wife talk to his older brothers who are 10 and 15. I started talking to our oldest son aboutsex when he was about 7 because he asked me about it.Some kids were talking about it on the playground at school. And of course it was all off.

Wedidn't want our boys to get their education the wrongway and get some girl pregnant. Although I must say, it's an ongoing process. I still question my 15 year old on a regular basis. Ifeel if they learnit at home that willreduce alot of the curiosity that tends to get kids in trouble. I guess only time will tell with my boys.

I have talked to my son about the birds and the bees since he was a baby. Obviously on a need to know basis. If something comes on TV I use it as a basis to chatabout that particular subject. I think that sometimes he would prefer it,if I didn't chat to him about these things as he gets a little embarrased. Does anyone know of a good book for kids as myson is 10 now and may prefer to read up on these things when he's alone. I believe it's important to teach kids about the moral side of all these issues as well.
