I am coming up with ideas toimplement in my year 5 (aged 9-10) classroom. I already found a classical music for kids CD for use during handwriting and guided reading (as well as when they first come in to settle them down).
Now i am looking for more "contemporary" music for the 20 minute "golden time" segment on friday afternoons.
Problem is, except for anthony hamilton, everything i own is parental advisory!! I am looking around amazon for general "pop" music, but alot of the music is stuff my kids would not be into (class is 100% Black. James Blunt isn't going to cut it!!)
I was trying to find some suitable hip hop/R n B compilations but at least a few of the songs would be inappropriate. Plus it is a church school and even i thought some of the songs were "passable" and the kids might like it, the head may frown!!
So does anyone have any ideas for some decent contemporary music for kids that doesn't feature swearing, reference to guns/drugs/sex etc? Or references i may have to explain (like Nelly Furtados "promiscuous girl"!!)
Maybe stuff you have used for your kids parties? My nephews are 4 and 6 so they are not really into music yet, so i can;t really "use" them.
Thanks.
YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY OTHER PEOPLES\' OPINION OF YOU!! ;0)
