Having no children of my own, I can;t really answer the question. But I woud hope my nephews grow up with better emotional stability than my sisters and I as (in my opinion) this is one of the keys to happiness. To paraphrase Socrates, you can never be TRULY happy unless you are happy within yourself. Life, and its opportunities, are what you make it and it seems to go without saying that happy people make better use of opportunities available to them.

offtopic.gifi really object to the use of the term "seed" and wish it was not a part of the topic title.

Yes. We are better off in some narrow areas than our parents eg access to cheaperhigher education and money and material. I have one son and would like two children more or three if the truth be known. But I can say he does not have much excuse to mess up his life as I in particular has made sure of that with his mother.

He is far more previleged than most African children in this country and born basically into a radical dynasty both in Britain but also a deep Caribbean one of my father and grandfather's people. He has two god fathers who are vetrands of our black power movement in this country and one of whom is my number two in security and a vetrand of all kinds of serious shit. The other is a business genius and serious money man.

That was to make sure he is protected after I die. Same way I am the godfather to some of our most senior and tested brothers children for the same reason. Children or adults need quality guidance throughout their lives in tackling or the tricky and nasty problems which can arise whether it is women who think they are smart or others who want to do them harm.

Me and my close crew also have made arrangements for our kids to know each other very well and are close eg sleep overs, go to the same supplmentary schools or after school projects etc so they have a source of good quality partners eg wives/husbands when they are older and don't have to go through too much shit in order to have a quality partner in life and not waste their time, money and emotions chasing rubbish.

After that they are by themselves. But I have given strict instructions if they **** about and do not meet expectations they will be cut off clean. Same way with my father and his people who are the backbone of all I need in terms of business or political or other contacts. But if I or my sibblings are idiots that door shuts quickly.

Better off...

Don't know...

Been used before...

Will they have a foundation to build and grow from that would require a more thoughtful approach.

The home maybe stable but the society is not practicing this stability.

Education cost keeps rising and wages are stagnant. Benefits are decreasing.

Life resources such as extended family and community are dying.

Food and water are becoming more contaminated with our traditions with technology and consumerism, leaving nothing virgin or fertile for the future generation to feed off of and use.

If they can overcome that then it was due to the foundation not necessarily being better off.

because a child is so much more than a "seed". You may refer to your own sperm cell as a "seed" as much as you want, but a child is just that, a child. Just seems a very derogotory term to me.

Bacoo,

No. Although they may be materialistcially better off than we were, this generation is born with no peace in their lives. I remembered when I was growing up in the 70's, we didn't have to worry about drive by shootings, Columbine style killings, sporadic drugs and so on. I used to remembered sitting on my grandmother's porch until 12 in the morning and nobody would come and attack us. We didn't have to close our doors! I don't have kids, but I observe my 3 little nephews and what they do. Some of the things they have to deal with school, we didn't have to in my generation( eg cops in the school, metal detectors , people being thrown out of the school without being heard). I told my neighbor that if I had to go to school today, I'll skip because it has gotten so erractic.

Hey Bacoo,

You know right now I'm at the stage where I am trying to make sure things will be better for my children. So far I've been able to bag them an excellent father who gives them all the love and support they need. They even have the bonus of a human climbing frame as and when they see fit LOL . The house was stable until I saw one and two cracks in the ceiling :?

As far as education goes, I would always encourage them to achieve as best they can but not to work towards working for someone else! We're building business so they can see, as they grow, how it works and how to make the most of all their talents and abilities. I don't want them to be misguided into thinking that working for someone else is all they are studying for. If hubby and I get things right now then they shouldn't have to worry too much financially in future.

They will have as many options as we can help them identify, but I've yet to come across the part wherewe as parents have tolet them go and trust that they will survive and make wise choices in the big world...that does scare me a little.
