[quote=BLACKCHAT;1460111]Why do you believe Bob Marley was force into embracing his black cuture because there was no other choice? Do you realise that many mixed race people Automatcially pick one side of their race whether they know it or not ? For most in Britain thats the white side. Jade Goodie is a good example she is fully embrace as white. The majority of mixed race people in the UK will end up in white culture .

I disagree sir/madam. I dont think mixed race people automatically choose anything. Which goes back to Bob M. He had no choice because he grew up in an exclusively African Jamaican environment. He was brought up in that culture in Trench Town/ Kingston and even before when he lived in country.. It made him who he was. Did he have to seek his white side to feel at peace and whole with himself? Did he as he was fully able to in later life/ immerse himself in white culture to understand his other side? Did he suffer mental illness as a result?

So if the above applies to mixed raced children in all black environments / why wouldnt apply to the those who grow up in exclusively white environments. Yes there are those who once exposed to black culture when older identify with that. So does not a person's immediate environment shape their thinking? That environment can involve the people who are around them. It also involves societies reaction to them.. i.e if they are looked upon as black then they will identify with that.

But I dont understand your question? How can mixd race people identifying with white or reproducing with whites make the black carribean population smaller? As tow hy the black American population remained black is because in the main Africans in the Americas reproduced with Africans. Mixed races were always a minority. Nothing to do with mixed race people choosing blacks to reproduce with and adding to the pool of blacks. Look at Brazil which probably has the highest rate of mixed race people anywhere. Do the majority of mixed people in Brazil identify with being black or their African roots? Hell no. If Kunjufu wants to look at a classic mixed race culture then he can do better to look at Brazil or Dominica rather than Jamaica/Guyana which has not significantly been influenced by mixed races in language /culture or identity..

Me and you don't have to think anything. Just look at stats, they show us that 80 % plus of mixed race people reproduce back into the white community. Are you saying the majority of mixed race people who pick white culture/partners are force to do so. I doubt it. Noone is forcing mixed race people to identify with black or white many pick sides on their own.

Blacks in America and black caribbeans are minority groups, thats why it can make the black caribbean population smaller. The 1% Black caribbeans in the UK are consider minority. When 50 and 35% of that population leave this earth, the offspring are left. If half of them are not of that same group then that makes less. Britain has 50 million people. The British caribbean together doesn't have 10 million people. Brazil has a race class issue, black people with 20% and 15% portuguse consider themselves mixed race. Many don't have recent white ancestors but ones going way back.

Isnt that down to environment? Maybe I shouldnt of used the word forced but said pre-disposed then.

As for making the black population smaller are you not bolting the stable long after the horse run away in saying that mixed race will invariably reproduce with white. If they live with whites/ grow up among whites in the main/ have overall white influence then what do you expect? Did you have a choice in which culture you practice influence you/ or was it a natural consequence of your environment? I think we are saying the same thing but this idea of choice dont exist in the main. Your immediate environment will choose for you.
