Default The 'Sex Talk' with your Children. - 15-02-08, 07:03 PM

Did your parents have the 'Sex Talk' with you. The one in which they explain where babies come from, why and how people have sex?

I wonder, cause I never had that sex talk. I sort of just found out about age ten what it sort of was.

When I got my first period my mama told me I was a woman now and explained me how to use pads. That was it.

Would having a Sex Talk make you more comfortable with your sexual needs and identity, or more responsible in practicing safe sex?

I know I would have been embarassed to death if my parents ever talked to me about sex...

But with all these teen pregnancies and std's nowadays, perhaps parents should play a bigger role in young teens sexual explorations...

I'm sure my mum gave me the sex talk. I can still remember this advert from when I was little:

Hey Ijeoma,

I don't recall having a set time where my mum talked to me about sex. She was very calm and open so when my sister and I had questions we were comfortable enough to ask. Her being open and teaching us about respect made us not have an interest in getting wild with it. In fact it had the opposite effect.

I try to be as open more so with my daughter as I can but she's 7 and for now I've explained things to her as she's gone along to make her have respect for her body and self first. Right now it's more important for her to love the skin she's in. The same goes for my boys.

Obviously we haven't needed to talk about sex as such but with the sexual images all over it's inevitable that the subject needs to be addressed at times, so I supose indirectly I teach them that these images are NOT what they need to be following or aspiring to.

When she and my boys are old enough to need more information I'm sure the conversation will be very interesting though!

Lol!

I don't think I'll ever be comfortable enough to talk about sex with my mums...

Now it's not needed anyway as I know everything I need to know about the subject:P
