Default Potty Training - 28-05-08, 04:42 PM

Hi all, any parents here have any advice on potty training a toddler? E.g., at what age did your child start potty training, and (help!) how did you go about it?

Hi
I'm potty training my little girl we tried her in pull ups but she just walked out the room to do her thing then come back, we have now put her in knickers that seem to be doing the trick and asking her if she needs to use the toilet.

Also try and use a reward system like stars praise for doing so well, hope all goes well.

Hey Thriller,

Just been through this with my youngest. He now only needs a nappy when he sleeps and can go during the day. As with my other children we started them at 2. Usually we do it with pull ups but sometimes they can rely on that rather than let us know when they need to go. Getting into the habit of telling them to go even when they don't say they want to can help, like after they eat and before they go out.

The nursery also help by having a toilet routine to get them used to it and then they encourage just underwear so the children realize what the feeling means and then go to the toilet themselves.

Thanks all. So far, I have a 2 yr old (23 months), and she is beginning to say 'diaper' when she had poo'd in her diaper. Not on every occasion, but more often. As for pee, sometimes she can still go until the diaper is nearly full.

Anyway, so it seems as if we either go to the pull-ups, or perhaps try underwear, and have a potty nearby. Its just that stage where we get her to go to the potty when its either poo or pee that I am concerned about.

Thriller: I have to say I'm not one forcing this issue, children will get it with enough encouragement and if you make it fun..and not a demand.... I got mine when they were young a fun looking potty as an encouragement..

Then the hardest bit was trying get them to wee in the potty...i'd be running tap water, making funny weeing noises and the such like.. but like i said eventually they got it..so make it fun, don't get stressed and give them, space...

I would advised that you don't rush it either, particulary with boys...they may get out of nappies early but then you end up with a bed wetting problem.

Like K said keep it fun and a good idea is to get other children who are already trained to lead by example....this really worked for me.

And it is a known fact that girls are easier to train then boys.

If we do not have an accurate analysis of the problem, we cannot possibly develop a good strategy to resolve it.

OK how are you all dealing with the lapses? Baby Maat has been either forgetful or lazy over the past few weeks. Can't work out which one at the moment.
