11yr old Oyster Photocards -

Not satisfied with watching our every move, babylon has now moved onto our children. Another Oyster launch, another shambles.
Anyone else had this problem

The last 4 times a bus driver has turned off his engine whilst i have been travelling has been to do with Oyster shenanigans involving youngers
Should just scrap the whole thing anyway or make it means tested

Here's a question....BEFORE Oysters were given out for 'FREE' how did these children get to school?

Yeh right!
K - I don't see how they can introduce free travel for kids on buses without any restrictions, and then turn around and say now if you want the free travel you have to have a photocard!?
I only heard about this change because they sent a leter to my son telling him he didn't have to change the one he already had. For kids who don't already use Oyster, where was the notification? And why have they not given people a grace period?
I don't know how much child fare costs on buses without an oyster card now, but the tube is ridiculous!

I'll go on step further than Cash Money and say that they should scrap the whole free bus things for kids completley. Its pointless making it means tested (and f**k PC) because most of the ones who will qualify for means tested are most likely the ones who make my journey on the bus a living hell. Every so often I have to get the 329 at the Bush Hill Park, Palmers Green end and anybody who has caught that bus or the W8 knows of what i speak. Its not right that adults are paying ever more for the journeys and have to listen to packs of 20 or more screaming drag up pickney listening to their tinny mobile phone music (the girls are the worst). I'm sick of it. I alslo feel sorry for the kids with manners who sit quietly and some times in fear whilst their peers cause chaos. This was the one policy of Ken's that I've always hated. Plus the kids now roll on to the bus like its their territory. If the government really cared about kids traval they should give the councils money to provide school buses so people like me can get from a-b in peace.

Melissa: i hear you, however I must say that part of the reason why this change has come about is the behaviour of the children who have demostrated serious disrespect to other passengers on the bus... So to be honest the parents have to take some responsiblity, because its not fair that other people should be assaulted by the noise and stupidness of children who have no behaviour?
If found out my daughters was behaving like a hooligan on the buses they would get and arsing then I'd make them walk to school...

Don't get me wrong I know the kids are disgusting, i would never take the bus in my area at any time of the day,if i get stuck without a train or tube I take a cab. We had to find a complete different route to school for my eldest as he found bus rides via hackney too nerve racking. I thknk they should scrap the whole thing too.
But it wasn't the freeness that made these kids act bad, I remember coming home from school an hour later or walking so i didn't get caught up with the bad kids. They did nothing to stop the behaviour before now. It is just another big brother tactic. As usual though, it isn't the ones causing trouble who will suffer from these stupid policies.

Good point about the school bus service. That would probably be too quick a solution. Cha it's just another tracking system as is the oyster, the loyalty cards, the chip to keep your "mind at rest" about where the children are etc etc and at first when I heard of the photocards it just sounded like a contradiction to FREE travel in the first pace. I mean some of the children I've seen on the buses are being challenged by the driver when it's blatantly obvious that they are talking to a CHILD.
I know more children seem to be getting wilder when they are in their groups but some of these drivers are going on militant and everybody on the bus is getting it and you'd better hold on tight too if you want to reach your destination with some of them DAMN I nearly bus' my head picking up some little boys cards that dropped on the floor while a bus pulled off. Why becasue the driver vex and already drive past people clearly waiting at the stop because she feel like it "Drivaaa! Don't stop at aaall"!
