How did you select the right person? Especially if you didn't know her/him (found an ad or formal referral).

What were the qualities you looked for?

What type of care is your child/ren in? (Day Care, Nanny at your home, Nanny at her home).

friends and family use the nursery my children go to. plus i have a friend who works there so I get to know about all bumps etc etc they pass their ofstead reports

I'm pretty sure that all nurseries would come under some sort of inspection, as such it would be worth researching the inspection authority to see the latest reports on Nurseries in your area.. normally they contact the users , staff and obvious inspect the running of the nurseries too... I'm not sure if that would come under Ofsted or some other body As i think it would be worth taking a butchers hook...at the reports online if they are available...

All childminders, pre-schools, schools & nurseries are OFSTED inspected every 3 years. Once you have their OFSTED registration number you can go online to check their report, or if they have a portfolio it may be provided in that.

All staff (and if they are a childminder all adults over 16 years in the house, plus anyone who regularly visit the house) have to undergo an enhanced CRB check.

As a childminder myself, I keep up to date with the latest training. However, as a parent, regardless of how many qualifications etc, I have to go with a gut instinct. When I was working outside the home, there were many childminders who were disregarded because of this. I'd need to trust who I was leaving my child with.
