FREE DA MIC is an open mic night Sunshinekic.com and the UHURU Movement ( http://www.inpdum.org )

Just to enlighten peeps whats going on in this. Im an individual who has been going to a decent amount of open mic events, to me the people are talented but other than the fact of making independent money as individuals which is good, I dont see anyother benefits of most of them dont speak for the people. U usually find so called "concious people" talking some mad stuff they dont even relate to,sometimes they talk about problems we as black people face but they only perform it in front ofso called "concious people". How ar you gonna act like you are a solution when you are far from the problem. With FREE DA MIC you are gonna get the real street up in the place, why? Cus UHURU is for the people and not for a segregated few that call themselves "concious".

So if you know any youths thats got songs that reflect is struggles in reality, no matter what struggles, drugs, crime, poverty, gvt, etc etc. this is the place. People aint just coming here to be left with something to think about, people are leaving with something to do!!

I know what you mean about the club scene. I have had enough!

I went to the last Afropick event and really enjoyed it, and there's another one this Sunday. The vibe was relaxed and supportive for the performers, who were entertaining. It was great to see a crowd of young black people gathered together for a fun, cultural evening.

Kindred Spirit, is another event that I enjoy.

Below are the details of another poetry/open mic event. I've never been to the Lounge Bar, but I've heard good things about it.

I went to a similar poetry event in Brixton about 2 years ago, I forget what its called but it was entertaining....In fact I actually came out feeling inspired...Im not sure its better than going to a club, but then again it depends on what you are looking for...anyway....hope you enjoy yourself whatever you decide.
