IS THIS MY REALITY

My innocence as a child
I never noticed my colour
Now they tell me I am black
And that I’m different from another

I walk through life
Being me...not white not black
Back talk a certain way
They say "Yeah, typical that"

Now I see I am black
Now I am colour conscious
Innocence lost
Experiencing that which wronged us

Typecasted, stereotyped
Put in a box
I have power over who I am
Damn, they say absolute power corrupts

The "ME" is now gone
I am how others perceives me
Not doing what you expected
Change how your mind receives me

I was patient and waited
Created a time to observe and reflect
An innate prejudice of the unknown
Is what I detect?

Took my time to come to terms
Affirm the way I was treated
All smiles when greeted
Daggers in my back when not needed

Looking back to my childhood
What was my frame of mind?
Underline what was the difference
That made me colour blind

The now contributes to my future
My generation my existence
Problems from a standpoint in time
Moving away from levels of subsistence

Building our own
A common goal and unity
Helping ourselves
Striving for a thriving community

There will be obstacles in the way
To stop us standing straight
Coming in different masks different faces
To reprimand and suffocate

A racial slur used by my own
Go figure
A cancer so malignant in our lives
Way iller way sicker

Was once putin handcuffs
Was once forced in chains
Moving from a physical enslavement
To being captive through the brain

IS THIS MY REALITY

What happens in death?
Will I still be black?
Is heaven all white?
Will St Peter turn his back?

Of all the religions
Is there one true belief?
Why does one have to be right?
Why has it caused harm and grief?

Which do I follow?
Buddha, Jesus, many others also
How about the worship of idols
Is not the physical manifestation of god false though?

If I LIVE backwards
Is it EVIL I endure?
Secure myself on the right path
Or eternal damnation I procure

For peace and tranquility
Never got back an answer
Sidetracked by my acts of iniquity

Taught to serve and fear god
Being humble and meek
Seek the oblique answers
To the havoc man wreaks

Was I made in god’s image?
With dominion over earth and sea
Was it a show of power?
That I maimed it destructively

No divine intervention
Yet we have cataclysmic tectonic plates
Bubonic plagues, demonic hate
Which is why we are in this chronic state?

Can I divinely intervene?
Unseen the god that lies within
For so long going without
Resenting the feeling of chagrin

Am I walking in the valley?
Of the shadow of death
Lord why hast thou forsaken me
In the darkness am I all that is left

Within the shadows discerning myself
The wealth of my one true voice
Can I hear my 6th sense perhaps?
Affirming my one true choice

Now walking in MY shadow
My life, my breath, my soul
This is my reality
There is only one I follow

I found that my reality
Is in all situations to be me
No religion, No colour, Nobody
Can tell me differently
