They minimize my intelligence to. . . . . POTENTIAL.

My questions mean I am. . . . . UNAWARE.

My advancement is somehow. . . . . UNFAIR.

To voice concern is. . . . . DISCONTENTMENT.

If I stand up for myself I am too. . . . . DEFENSIVE.

If I don't trust them I am too. . . . . APPREHENSIVE.

I am defiant if I. . . . . SEPARATE.

I am fake if I. . . . . ASSIMILATE.

My character is constantly. . . . . UNDER ATTACK.

Now ain't that the truth. Sure all of us have experience most if not all of those.

The "My character is constantly. . . . . UNDER ATTACK "line especially reminds me of when one of my friendsdid a project on racial profiling of minority groups inToronto and surrounding area. Since we grew up in suburbia, 98% of the students inher class were white...a few were filipino and there was one other black guy in the class. Anyway all the white kids in the class argued with her asking her where she found her statistics and how they are pulled over by the cops too and how people always give them the "look" when they enter stores or are walking down the streets with their friends. Regardless of if they do experience those, they forgot that they aren't a "minority" in this country...but whatever. They went on and on about how they thought she was exaggerating.Anyway she was mighty pissed and none of the other non whites in the class backed her up...not even the black guy. They all just kept their mouths shut. Sorry offtopic.gif, but that was what immediately sprung to mind when I was reading that.

That is the shit, i love it, it has the real pride in it that i respect. We are always under attack like some people dont notice it but we are and its pissin me off all the time and i cant do nothin about it.

I personally liked the last to line that brought cold sivers down my back:

those are the characteristics they use to enslave our minds so that we may conform to their ideologies of how black should be. Keep up the realness brother.

This is an awesome and powerful piece. I really liked the writing style you chose for this. The strength you showed in so few words was amazing. I don't think I have seen a poem written on this subject that was as on point and full of pride as this.
