Caught up in this life on the UK streets
Where you stay weak, if you don’t rep, you may sleep
Where things to you stay bleak, obeying street rules
Such weak fuel to young minds, which mistreat school
And bringing the heat pools a river of blood
And while another’s dying we have mothers crying
Hoping the skies gives us a flood
So we can wash off our hands, wash away the responsibility
And have community uproar talking about we want stability
The futility continuously grieving bringing flowers to graves
Coming from our hour of slaves it was pertinent
We should have more power these days
But it has turned sour this phase still stuck in the system
Stop the guns campaigns but what stops us going to prison
Or worse on the tombstone engraved R.I.P when they die
Because there was no rest or peace as a crook when alive
All we can do is look in the sky and sigh the good die young
So its good-bye son, however, no one should cry stunned
With the life he lived that he would die gunned
Selling drugs because he could not live on minimum wage
So he joined that life, the streets that many engage
And there you go another deceased
So many, living in the belly of the beast

Caught up in this life, teenage single mother rearing babies
Appearing shaky, so young but a persevering lady
Can’t pay no bills, can’t get a decent job
Can’t afford a sitter, so forced to steal and rob
And rely on handouts from child benefit cheques
And when times got hard wished she did not have any kids yet
Cheques wasn’t enough to keep her baby dressed to impressed
The need to show all her friends she was far from stressed
The worry lines began appearing on an aging youthful face
She was tired all the time; she was gauging her truthful place
An undeveloped mind, she was young in the head
A baby at sixteen when college should have begun instead
Stuck in this world, living in hell on her own
She used to cry to herself, all the time she felt all alone
Wanted to run away from this life contemplated bringing it to an end
Who could she turn to, no strength, no leaning on a friend
There was no means to her end, no end to her meaning
Felt forced to sell her body, her baby in the next room screaming
Couldn’t make ends meat, so life had defeated her
Committed suicide left her baby at the father’s side
Praying it was heaven that greeted her
And there you go another deceased
So many, living in the belly of the beast

Caught up in this life, addicted to drugs
Afflicted thereof, a guy who had a conflict with love
Parents died when he was younger, brought up an orphan
The memory etched in his brain, he was only four then
Only 4 when his dad took his mum’s life then ended his own
A young kid all alone, on the system he depended till grown
Moved from home to home, most times he could not close his eyes
Ran away from the pain by injecting drugs in his brain
To offset his lows, his cries
He mourned, his soul torn, trying to find reason
His existence haunted by the sound of his mother screaming
Longed for the day of pain easing leaving troubles behind
It had been 24 years since; it would not rub out his mind
Couldn’t form any lasting relationships, he was going insane
Started on smaller drugs before going up to heroin and cocaine
For a time homeless, finding ways to feed his habit
If he saw a helpless woman’s purse he felt the need to grab it
Eyes constantly red, needle tracks covered by tattoos
As his addiction to smack grew, it was only wall he had his back to
No one to turn to, nowhere to go, questioning his place on earth
Asking god why as he OD’d wishing he was erased at birth
And there you go, another deceased
So many, living in the belly of the beast.
