cogs Buffaloed Soldiers (a work in progress) - 06-11-07, 05:00 AM

Buffaloed Soldiers
Agents of White men,
Took aim on orders,
Thinking it would free them.

Fighting for goals
And a fate they knew not
Changing up events,
So the North won their lot.

But what did they gain?
Those soldiers of mind.
After they took aim
And sent the war into decline.

Nothing at all.
They were treated the same.
No different than animals
Instead of civil and humane.

The Tuskegee Airmen
Everyone of them black
Reset the standards
For heroics in combat

But what did they gain?
Nothing at all.
Even though they were key
In the German's downfall.

Buffaloed soldiers
Of American History
Emancipated slaves
Denied all their glory

Had they been white
Forgive me when I say
Their praises would still be sung
Even until this day

But because they were not
We were not allowed to sing
That segregated black men
Fought the war to its ending.

The Tuskegee pilots
And civil war men
Fighting for the freedom
That had been denied them

Buffaloed soldiers
Fooled by their guides
Into fighting a war
On their enemy's side

Buffaloed soldiers
Who didn't try to hide
And fought for their captors
Without prejudice or snide

Even now today
Still we fight alongside
Our former slave masters
With spirit and pride

And we buffaloed soldiers
Have paid the same price
As America's forefathers
Without a leadership slice

No American president
Has ever been black
Nor held in public office
Without a white at his back

This does not mean
All whites are prejudiced
Just that the system
Does not do us justice

If it were even
Those few infamous whites
Would not have died
While fighting for our rights

Lincoln the Honest,
And John F. Kennedy
Would have been raised
To the heights of glory

Instead they were slain
By the very same color
In the same way that Cain
First slew his brother

For making an offering
To the glory of God
Instead of just seeking
A token head nod

Yes, they were the same
As our buffaloed soldiers
Trusting without blame
In their cultural brothers

But you know the saying
The half has never been told
With buffalo soldiers graying
Their story has been sold

But not to the highest bidder
To a country in remorse
For the actions of white men
Who refused to change their course

And in my heart is forgiveness
For all those humans who
Regardless of color or origin
Fought for what was true

And just for the record,
I do not see white or black
I deal only in the human
Aspect of personal facts.

So don't be offended
Because I said 'white'
I know you're siblings
In a similar plight.

We all have been buffaloed
Soldiers in one cause or another
Believing we were right
Though we fought against our brother

We are all human inside
Regardless of race, culture, or creed
And though it might be denied
We all show red when we bleed.

Buffaloed Soldiers.
Humans. Every one.
Buffaloed humanity.
And now I am done.
