Obviously if your idea is to be patented or you feel its shrewd practice then best to keep your ideas secret.

However if you feel proud in the knowlegde that your idea may have helpedjust one single person to begin walking the road of financial independence- then post here.

I will continue posting until i reach 101 ideas, however if you have a contribution - then obviously we'll get there sooner.

Try and keep the formats of the ideas uniform so veiwers can easily identify the ideas from the discussions if any inbetween.

Try and break the idea down into sections such

a, Project Facts - Summary of what its about.

b, What do i need?- skills, licences capital required etc

c, Pros and Cons.

d, How do i operate?

e, How much can i earn?

(If you dont know answers to the above then just post your idea anyway)

Everything can be summarised. Not looking for business plans here, as its up to the individual to go away and take the idea further or discuss it here.

Please numberyour idea.

I'll start off with.............................................. ................

1, Adult Education

Project facts- Quite simply if you have a day-to -day skill, it can be sold to others as a course or evening class and you often dont need to have a qualification. Eg. a good amateur car mechanic, home knitter, oil painter, house plant grower, could all offer offer their skills as a lucrative course.

What do i need?- A saleable skill, possibly a licence ( check with the local authority ), a venue (eg school or local hall for hire, even at home) a structured course.

Pros and cons

Pros- mininmal outlay, no delay in payment, can be arranged to fit in with another job
Cons- Needs lot of preperation, difficult to estimate demand in advance.

How do i operate?- Decide on the skill and work out a course. A typical course might consist of six 1.5 hr lessons. Try and make the lessons interesting and varied. You may include a talk, visual/ audio aids and practical work. Find a venue. Your local Authority or college might be interested in offerring your course. Advertise- local papers, shop windows, the internet, leaflet mail-shots etc. Get students to pay up front or for one lesson at a time.

How much can i earn?- Fees will be higher for courses that are not readily available cheaply at local evening classes elsewhere. Example- An experienced calligrapher has a course lasting over six lessons each for 2 hrs. The fee charged for one course was £175.00 (payable in weekly instalments x6) 22 students enrolled bringing in total income of £3850. The main costs are for the hire of classroom at college £40 per session plus £480 advertising costs in local press. Therefore making £3130 profit for the entire course. This could easily be repeated 4 further times in the year (min) making a yearly profit of £12,524.

2, Leaflet Distribution Company(LDC)

Project Facts- There are hundreds of companies out there who need to promote their businesses and door to door leaflet distribution is a cost efficient way of them doing so. Rather than do it themselves they can use a LDC. There are few properly organised LDCs who can offer a 1st class service so there is room for beginners to open up and developto a considerable size.

What do i need- A telephone, storage space at home for leaflets (garage), a team of leaflet droppers ( advertise in shop windows for P/t droppers and offer £5 per hour), Magazines Campaign and Marketing will contain info. of interest.

Pros and Cons-

Pros- Min outlay, Once established can expand fairly easily, employ others to do work

Cons- Requires organisational and supervisory skills, some clients may need convincing of the value of the service.

How do i operate?- Recruit customers firstly. Try and get 5 businesses at first so you can drop all at same time. Many firms already have leaflets and promo material, however you could link up with a printers and offer this as an extra service for extra revenue if necessary. Small medium and large companies are your market. Yellow pages is a good source for leads. Telesales is the best technique for getting customers, followed by writing to them.Try and get contracts for for regular drops each mth. Eg. you might get 20,000 from a local supermarket, 30,000 from local council, 10,000 from local sports centre etc. Always bulk them together for a profitable drop. The best droppers to employ are housewives, active pensioners and students. You'll need about 20 active droppers on a list to cater you needs initally. Plan your drop zones and transport and organise the droppers. Make sure that the leaflet matches the the area. Need to liase with the customer to find out what the products target market is. A leaflet on Double Glazing may not go down well in an area full of council homes but very well in homes built prior to 1970 say. Do spot checks on the droppers to make sure they are not dumping the goods. Liase afterward with each customer on the response they obtained and make notes. this info will be vital as a record to tell you which areas work best for which products. Get repeat orders. Can grow this into a National business

How much can i earn- A typical charge for delivering 1000 leaflets could be £40.00. If you can get five different comapnies for one drop then your looking at £200.00 per 1000 letter boxes. £2000 per 10,000 boxes, £20,000 per 100,000 boxes, £200,000 per 1,000,000 boxes.

Good droppers can drop 1000 in a day earning £50.00 perhaps. So on 1000 drops the organisers profit is £1950 minus transport costs

Summary- Investigate and set rates, always drop several at a time (one will not pay), Aim to get regular contracts, Reasearch areas and record data via experiences, use part time distributors.

Literary Agent

Project Facts? On a commission basis, sells books to publishers for authors; negotiates contract; collects payment of the advance money and royalties due.

What do I need? A bachelor 's degree is expected; a graduate degree is recommended; Literary Agents are also expected to be well-read in classic and contemporary literature.

Pros? You can become self-employed.

Can work from home.

Cons? Extremely good discipline is required to organise and negotiate affairs witheditorswithinpublishing houses, whilst remembering thatyou are the representation of an author. Need to have a sound knowledge in numeracy.

How do I operate? You need to become 'trusted' - so in other words, it'll take a while before you become a recognised and reputable person within the industry. In the meantime, it'll help if you to market yourself and network a lot in order to become a success.

How much can I earn? From approx. £5,000 to £25,000 to ahem ...millions!

I would like to add this, If I may; VISION effective leadership begins with a clartiy of vision descrbing where the organization is going. Vision goes beyond simply descrbingthe organization's mission, it establishes a road map for all to follow. As leaders create and share their vision with others, a sense of urgency for accplishing the vision is created. As leaders emphasize in their vision statement that their busniess will be "the best" in their industry, a sense of pride and an increase in self-esteem is planted in the hearts of all employees.

1. Triggers To Create The Vision

2. Attributes Of A Vision

3. Planning Tools

Triggers To Create The Vision:

1. What business are we in?

2. How does quality define us?

3. What does quality mean?

4. What do we want to be like in five years?

5. When customers speak of us, what do we want them to say?

6. How will we differentiate ourseleve for the competitions?

7. What knid of work environment do we want to provide our employees?

8. What do we need to do to delight our employees and customers?

9. What do we do well?

10. What builds staisfaction for our employees and customers?

Attributes Of A Vision

1. Concerned with values, not purpose.

2. By their very nture they forces us to deal with the future by looking to what is desirable and what is expected toexist.

3. Its a process of expressing a dream.

4. They crate accountability for acation.

5. Clear visions have depth and details expressed for precise understanding.

6. Everyone has a vision, whether expressed or not.

7. Tiered visions visions carry the message to the people.

8. They encourage others to action with a collective hope of the future.

9. Passion for success is built on a vision of what can be accomplished.

10. A vision defeines why an organization exists.

11. They are organic, and changes as new ideas and experinces affects the leader.

12. Its not a slogan or motto but an expression of what an organnization is about.

4, Mind-a-home service

Projects fact - The increase in crime has lead for demand of this service. Similar to guard patrols for commercial premises the new home minder facilities offer a watchful eye over a home when the owners are away, or in need of extra security.

What do i need?- a telephone, transport, small amonut of capital for advertising and stationery, part-time help with patrols. (to ensure confidentiality this an ideal family business.

Pros- there is a huge potential market, very little outlay

Cons - It may take time time to build a respected name. The business has a seasonal element.

How do i operate- service will include patrolling homes, checking doors, taking in mail, switching lights on and off, watering plants-all of which act as a deterrent to burgulars. Professionalism is key as it builds confidence. Operate maybe from an accomodation address in a prestige area. Get insurance from a broker to cover customers against damage or theft whilst you look after their homes. Inform the police of the business as you dont want to be arrested for being a criminal yourself whilst looking after homes.

Advertise in local and regional papers, shop windows, quality mail shots. However do not door knock for business as this doesnt inspire confidence. The service is for people going away on holiday or business and the elderly and handicapped who require a daily security call.

Visit those who enquire about the service in person to hold a consultation. Quote a daily rate and bill monthly. A daily check might cost £10 per day and a more detailed check£20 per day.

How much can i earn- Such a service may not seem to have a great deal of profit scope. But figures tend to prove otherwise. Assume that in a medium-sized town a security service gained customers for five £10 calls and two £20 calls. That amounts to £70 daily and £490 weekly. Such a service may take only 8-10 hours to operate and could be 5 times busier in the peak periods e.g. summer holidays. Obviously there are more hours in a day and the business becomes more lucrative with more contracts.

5, Auctions
Project facts- Auctions arewell excepted methods of buing and selling property, livestock, arts and antiques and the like. So the auction organiser has a method of selling that buyers already accept. Auctions are however, less well-used for some other goods, and this is where the opportunities are. Anyone can organise, promote and hold an auction and make money for very little risk.

What do i need- Capital to advertise an event £300 or more, good organisational skills

Pros- Very little risk, possibly high return, money collected immediately

Cons- Needs heavy promotion, only occasional income.

How do i operate- Organisation is the key to the success of the sellers and the organiser. Basically you will be providing a venue and an auctioneer and then inviting the public to sell. A qualified auctioneer is vital and a legal requirement. Agree their fee in advance. The venue could be a hall which is accessible to large numbers and have good access for goods. You may need to book it up to 3 days in advance to cover the sale and prior veiwing days. Decide on the products to sell. Stick to a category of items and probably best to stay away from specialist areas like livestock or fine arts unless you have the expertise. Good products are those which will sell for between £30-£500. Eg. general antiques and bric-a-brac, household effects, collectors' items such as coins, furniture and the like. Also cars, tools and equipment, bankrupt and discountinued stock all make good auction lines. Take advice from the auctioneer and bear in mind local conditions. You then need to promote the event and this takes 2 forms

1 , promoting to sellers- to make it work you will need people to sell theoir unwanted goods whether they are traders or general public. You need as many as possible. Sellers will be interested if you give them plenty of notice. Advertise promineltly in local papers, shop windows and door-to-door mailshots locally.

2, promoting to buyers this takes on a different form, this time encouraging people to attend the auction as buyers. All the above marketing methods apply however different advertising copy must appeal specifically to invite buyers. Do not assume they will respond to the same invitation as sellers.

The organistaion of the auction itself could take the following form. 1, entries for sale should close 7 days prior to event. 2, put entries into numbered lots. 3, print a ctaolgue of lots. the cover price of say £1 could give admission to the auction. 4, the day prior to sale admit the lots and arrange and arrange the displays. 5, on the morning of the sle open the hall for veiwing. 6, start the sale at say 1.30pm. 7, all goods should be removed and accounts settled by 6pm the same day.8, set up a cashiers desk

How much can i earn- Profits acan be high. Income comes from twosources : admission charges, which at£1 per head could well be £1,200 at a good venue, including veiwings and commission. As a organiser you can charge a commission to sellers and possibly to buyers too. This might be 5% each plus a lot entry fee to the seller. 300 lots at £5 entry fee would produce £1500. If £12,500 worth of goods were sold commission might be £1,250. The total income fromthe auction would be £3950 less expenses. this amount will vary with the goods involved. It could be less for a small starter sale and far more for a well established major event.

Overlord said-Can you tell me some facts about how to start up a campony which we make Black TV shows, Cartoons and moives?

Overlord im assuming you mean a TV channel like for instance BET in the States. Obviously with this type of business its almost certain you would need to seek finance through an investor.

Again obviously in order to gain their interest you would first need to have a comprehensive business plan.

The business plan coud have the following structure.

Analysis of the ethnic sector- Overview, target market, Summary

Anatysis of the potential of the TV station- External environment, s
