some might be ok about it, as there are men and women in the US who have built companies without going to University. But they are few and far between.
most MBAs want to work for a reputable company, that has prestige

Its a load of nonsense. Its a money making scheme for the universities. When you qualify if you have any sense you will go to the US or Canada. If you stay you will...I'm sure you know the rest.

People also need to remember that the quality of degrees, in my opinion, has been watered down. I say this because they are easier to get and in some cases even buy.
When I left school, it was great to get an university place. To read for a degree was great and to get a 2.1 or a 1[sup]st[/sup] was just the biz. Now, just about everyone seems able [if they try] to get a degree, so the ladder is moved up and people want masters. These two are getting watered down so the awarding university starts to carry more merit.
As has been said, the degree is the key to the door, but you still have to open that door and know what to do when you step inside.
I look at the response I get from people when they interview me for a job; they would have already have seen my CV, they will have already have known that I have a strong academic background. What they don’t know yet is how good I am at my job. Sure I can bluff it on paper, but in the real world, can you deliver.
Those who seek a MBA, do best to equip themselves with as much experience as possible. They ought to also watch the jobs and people they work for.. e.g., I once knew a guy who was a Master Chief. Worked in some top hotels around places like Ascot and Henley [UK]. Then he made a quantum leap backwards and worked at Pizza Hut one summer.. total madness as he did not financially need to do it.. Future employers tended to focus on that era more than his previous high quality record.
A vocational degree is always worth pursuing, especially at higher educational levels. Its worth noting that there is an emergence of “Professional Doctorates coming on to the scene and these are being seen and ranked above PhD’s as they are more specific, they are delivered by other high ranking professionals in the line of “that business [they allow you to earn/work while studying], they require more input than the average PhD and you have to write longer thesis,, BUT you gain respect along with some very good work experience.

I could be biased given my graduate degree is in engineering, but from experience and observation the MBA is nearly worthless. It doesn't teach you how to do run your own business or provide for yourself, only train you how to work for someone else. The skills for entrepreneurship, investing, stock trading, intellectual property, and so forth are typically not learned in school.Even staying with a company, the MBA is not needed to move into management. I have rejected a couple offers to go into the management track for more lead technical rolesso that I do not get bored with my current work. If you simply have a graduate degree, no matter what, you are considered over those without.
I thought about the MBA, took a few classes, but felt kind of stupid not learning any real skills. It may be good for people who already has a skilled degree but want to focus on the business aspects; however it is an even further waste of a brain for people who don't have a bachelors in something practical. The worst managers with the shortest lifespan from my experience are the ones with a MBA after doing psychology, sociology, or something similar in undergrad. If you are going to go through with an MBA, at least have some area of expertise to sharpen your business acumen.
