Hi all,
I'm putting on a charity ball at Fulham Civic Hall in the autumn to raise money for the Sickle Cell Society. Myself and the two co-organisers are all City solicitors and our target audience is principally people like us - young professionals. The theme of the evening is Beautiful & Damned (as per the F Scott Fitzgerald novel of the same name). As this is a charity event, we're currently paying for everything ourselves upfront and one of our priorities at the moment is to obtain sponsorship or other forms of support from organisations that would be well disposed to this sort of event.
Even donationsof a couple of hundred pounds will go a long way. Donations of sporting or other memorabilia that we can auction/raffle off would also be really useful. Having never done an event like this before, I'm a bit of a novice in terms of getting the right organisations on board. We have received sign off from the Sickle Cell Society but they obviously can't assist beyond providng a speaker and literature on the night. I would be grateful if any of you or any of your contacts would be able to assist in any way. We're also planning toget in touch with travel companies, beauty companies, and other such useful organisations to see if they will donate prizes for auction/raffle.We will be happy to publicise any organisation that supports the event whether they be small businesses or larger organisations.
If you can think of any way of helping, it will be greatly appreciated. If not, just buy a ticket and turn up - it's gonna be the black tie event of the year, we promise. Will let you know when tickets are on sale. Please do get in touch.
Many thanks,
cn216

No, I'm not that ignorant. The object of the first post is to guage interest. I was assuming (perhaps wrongly) that being of Afro-Caribbean descent, most people who read the message would be fully aware of what the blood disorder that is Sickle Cell Anaemia entails. Would you like me to give you more detail?

In fairness BS, cn216 didn't give any information on how to donate money/buy ticketseither, it should be possible to put out an exploritory post without inference of wrong doing surely? Given the location of the ball and the cause, if one feelsa need, it shouldn't be too difficult to verify these things once enough information is given to actually start putting out money.......
