Hello people.
Just wanted to share my new project and see what people think. It's basically a free information portal for all, black people primarilyandthen young people.
It is a photo gallery, forum and e-Billboard. I'm also offering web design and services via the site and the whole thing is a side project as I still work full time.
The plan is to eventually develop the services into a full IT and web consultancy.
Any constructive criticism (or praise and endorsements) are most welcome.
Cheers peeps.
Check it out... http://www.los-negros.com
PS: I know there may be some reservations about the name, but Los Negros is Spanish for The Blacks and is also the name of a Spanish island.

If you are adamant about being called "black", why not then use an african language to denote your self as such? Have your pick from Yoruba, Bantu, or whatever. Some of the languages termed Bantu would say Kami for "Blacks". But "negro", brother no, no, no.

Unfortunately I don't speak any African languages. Otherwise I may have thought of naming the site using an African word.

However, are you saying it is wrong to refer to yourself as a black person? If so, why? The sight is called "The Blacks". This forum is called "The Black Forum", the URL is "blackchat.co.uk"? Do you also believe this forum is named badly?

There is nothing wrong with calling yourself "black", but I don't agree with using a European word for black to do it since they invariably denote vileness, negativity, or even pure evil. The word "black" in an African language has no such denotation as it does in the European lexicon.

So therefore you also believe that the forum you are currently posting on is flawed in its usage of the word black in its title.
The meanings of words are open to interpretation, for example the white cloth of a Klu Klux Klan members uniform, invokes images of evil and injustice, red is depicted by Europeans to be the natural colour of the Devil, yet the Chinese see the red as a lucky colour and thus have a red flag.

Yes I do, and this has been discussed to a small length in a thread I previously created here...

No one has command or ownership over a color; therefore, it is invariably different from language. Banded groups of people own particular languages. So when we use another language to describe ourselves, our image and identity is now defined by those who own the language.

Interesting!
I ask this question, already knowing the answer, but I'm guessing you would suggest that as children of the West African Holocaust, we abandon the European Languages adopted and revert to an African language of our choosing?
Or should we discover exactly which (if possible) country we individualy descended from and learn and adopt that language?
An interesting proposition!
Do Africans have a written language that can be used throughout? One that could be used on computer keyboards, adopted into Document writers such as Microsoft Word and the like?
I would like to see it, for I would certainly be an early adopter!
