since my friends mag never came to fruitition because she was given an excellent job opportunity which has gone from strength to strength, i still have had plans to put together a magazine
i was thinking i should just get a website up, but learning html is proving a bit much. so i may have to take a course.
my choices which i will aim to complete at some point is to have amagazine with a supporting web site
however i have2 options, so please say which you think is best
print magazine with supporting mag
a web magazine 1st followed by a print mag
i have yetto consider a 3rd option
please my business minded folk please give your opinions
if i dont try i will never know

I should think the web magazine should be slightly easier to set up and running quicker and cheaper then the print option. If you can solve the distribution aspect, a decent printers and keep costs reasonable print is achievable. To get a site up you don't necessarily need to know HTML (would make your life easier if you did) You can get a site using something known as a CMS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_management_system, It would allow you and other users to add content without having to do much HTML. You will need a host that
runs PHP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PHP and databases thou, this site will help:

I've been seeing quite a few net and DVD magazines around recently, to be honest I don't like them, you can't beat a well written and printed monthly magazine. Most people keep them for a while as well, everything is getting intangible MP3s, net magazines, whats next!? confused3
Guess its cool to start with but I say print over web any time.
What are your plans anyway? Whats it going to be about?
Would be cool to hear a sucess story, or at least one of ambition.

^ ok will do
@rebel lion
i have two options
1- a lifestyle/fashion mag for black women with a focus on natural haircare beauty fashion etc
2- natural hair
3- style mag(well could be incorporated into the above (main) 2 ops
there is a blog i discovered the other day which i think would make a good mag
www.stealstyle.blogpsot.com
i am drawing ideas from many places, it gives a gyst. i would do unisex mag but not clued up on what men want or read and it may clash with what my end result maybe
i do love print mags, i have stacks of them trying to get them down remove excess

They all seem to be centered around the same thing could hae them all in one...Do you have en edge over the competition? A unique selling point? Not to be nosy or anything it sounds good.
Intresting blogas well, my bro is all into that.
What would you call the mag? LadyDay would be a good name thinking about it guess it wouldn't be daily though...
Some discounted advertizing space wouldn't go a miss. niceone.gif
