This video talks about light skin issues blah blah blah, but what really caught my attention was the doll test. It was shocking to say the least. I remember having issues as a kid but i guess thisis revelation that i wasnt the only one.

Shock, horror. This finding has been going on since the 60's. In fact black children as young as 2 years old accept that being black is bad. Just take a look at how the majority of black parents raise their children. Is it any wonder that these kids become so messed up? Everything in their surroundings reinforces their feelings of inferiority. Other non-white children also show the same pattern as well, but at least most of them are more likely to pick their own dolls overthe black one.

Yeah, this reality is real sad, in-fact it has brought tears to my eyes to think nothing has changed since I was growing up. And sadly it is usas Black people helping tokeep these inferiority complexesalive and thriving amongst the next generation -Listening to the girls talk about how they see themselves

I read 'Tell it like it is (ed) Brian Richardson (Bernard Coard, Original book) that doll test was done in the 1970's and when the kids were asked to pick out the BAD doll 59% picked the Balck doll, 17% picked the white doll - Damn. That clip was not taken that long ago prob... in the late 1990's and Black girls still prefer white dolls over Black dolls! Man, they really messed us up real proper -it hurts. Bernad Coard used to work in 'ESN' schools in the 70's and said whenBlack kidsdrew portraits of him or themselvestheywould colour in theirface's white!!!!

God determines who walks into your life...It's up to you who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go. May God bless all of you and your life be full of Peace, Prosperity, Love and Abundance. Amen

maybe a little offtopic.gifbut here goes: one of my jobs involves working in libraries helping children with their homework. I have a 7 year old girl who regularly comes to one with her older brother. They are originally from Sierra Leone.

Anyway the other day we were talking about Christmas lists and she said she wanted all the Bratz dolls(!) Then she said "all the dolls have long hair, even the brown one" Didn't really know what to do with that.

Another time while i was on my PGCE course i was placed in a year 1 class (aged 5-6) in Croydon. School was a fairly even mixture of Black and White kids (no Black teachers though). Anyway for the "show and tell" segment one of the girls (White) had a Black doll (coincidently also the Bratz doll) and kept pointing out the fact it was Black as though that somehow made the doll more special. I guess it is, when you think that on average most dolls are White.

When i was a little girl growing up (early to mid 80's) the one thing i always wanted was a Black doll, but i don;t think they even existed back then. The situation is only marginally better now.

I jokingly told my sister this last year and she got me a Black cabbage patch for Christmas lol (though the only thing "Black" about it was its skin tone, other than that it just looked like a regular cabbage patch, though cabbage patches have gotten more attractive over the years. When they first came out they were the ugliest dolls i had ever seen!)

There is also a range of dolls i think is called "baby born" which tends to always have an "ethnic" counter part to its white dolls. They are only really seen at the end of the adverts though.

If children as young as 2 are associating Black with bad one has to wonder where they are getting these messages? Family? peer group (though at 2 how much can they influence each other) media? (never under estimate how much children can take in from TV). At that age they are probably going for the doll with the "nicer" hair, though most, if not all, Black dolls seem to have the same hair texture as the white dolls, despite the reality being obviously different.

Maybe they should conduct the test again but this time give the Black dolls a blonde weave lol

YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY OTHER PEOPLES\' OPINION OF YOU!! ;0)

What do you expect when a lot of them are worshipping w white God.

One time I was reaing the mass sheet at hurch and one of the prays called the homily which is recited weekly goes

"WASH MEAND I WILL BE WHITER THAN SNOW"

They had a similar experiment on "Child of our time" on BBC a couple of years back.

In this one the child didn't go for the white dol as the parent place importance on their african heritage.

The experiment involved a black and white doll and the children spoke of their feeling towards each one and also which one they would want as a friend.

None of the white children wanted to best friends with the black doll. Immediately they thought that the child was poor and horrible and felt pity for them. Alot of the children associated the black doll with images shown of starving children on the news!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anything this shows that the way we are depicted in the media is influencial in other people (Non-white) view us.

Yes but when children grow up and start worshiping white women or images it is no longer seen as 'issues', as you described it. It becomes their 'preferences' I think the new in term is at the moment..confused3
