Default The best business....? - 21-06-07, 02:20 PM

I've always said that Import and Export is THE best business to get into.

Global trade involves every aspect of business, from finance to the commodities/currencies market, land to a need to be aware of international politics, new products/materials and so on, right down to the small and simple retail industry.

In my opinion no other business offers such a portal into literally every aspect of business making it THE BEST business to get into... in my opinion at least.

Guess other industries have their own thing going on. Marketing, finance and so on... what do people think is the best business arena to get into and why?

I wanted to know if the Dagara elders could tell the diffrence between fiction and reality. The elders did not understand what a starship is, they did not understand what the fussy uniforms had to do with anything but they recognized in Spock a Kontomble of the seventh planet... they had never seen a Kontomble that big.

Selling American and British flags to the Arabs. While watching the news it struck me that the fellows do enjoy pouring petrol over them and burning them in the street. Lots of fun to be had apparently. Anyway, I seriously doubt the ease of availabilty of such flags in such a location and I see a gap in the market here. Sell the fellows the flags they need! Capitalism in it's purest form and everybody's happy

Another is TV sets. When the digital switch over happens (very soon now) lots of people will buy new sets and discard the old ones. Send those old ones overseas. High shipping costs initially but there's always a market for TVs wherever you send em.

See if you studied Import/Export you could act on those and get to shipping some goods. Elecrical goods do well in Nigeria and the Japs have a thing with upgrading on a constant, mobile phones and what have you.

The only other two I can think of would be Finance, knowing people in that industry is a plus. Marketing also... guess I've waffled about all this already. Central idustries and what not.

If your primary aim is to make money, finance is hard to beat, particularly private equity. Guys like Damon Buffini get into that game for a good reason. Though you gotta live with the consequences and yourself......Alternatively, life sciences/bioethics will be massive in the future, along with technologies that will make it easier for us to live on this planet without frying ourselves and everything else......

Most of that is beyond me. I suspect I'll wind up as one of those people who get into business as more of a lifestyle choice. The commodity they sell is often themselves - their know-how, personality, or some of their specific skills. They often call themselves 'consultants' - and whilst the label is a bit tarnished these days, if you're in the right game you can earn a decent living, do good work, and build up something that you could either sell on or would still function if you went under a bus one day. And you can have a life. I know people who do this, and it works.

Mind your wants, 'cos somebody wants your mind
