Bismillaah Salaam, Gemini. You stated: >> and theres nothing wrong with African religons, they're just like any other religion <<

I would think that you are in a position to explain how this is true. Which of the African religions, for instance worshipTHE ONE TRUEGOD, ALONE?[as described inHIS,Holy Qur'aan].

Salaam. OriginalBM

@Gemini , I don't think Yoruba and other native African religions are just wholey based around modern 'voodoo' its alot more than idol worship or caricatures.

@ bm'er I'm sorry mate but ,Islam is not native to West Africans at least, and many native religions such as that of the Yoruba believed in a single one God ODUDUWA, who had deities(spelling?) not mumerous others, these you might consider in christianity or islam as angels, also it has a quite similar stoy of creation.

Voodoo/santeria does come from the Yoroba and other African religions. With the Yoroba religon being the strongest influence. I believe during the Haitian revolution they were shouting the name of the Yoroban God. Of course voodoo/santeria is not exactly the same as Yoroba as voodoo/santeria has been mixed with catholicism. But they are an offspring of the Yoroban and other traditional Aftican religions.

And stealth I'm disappointed in you Voodoo/santeria is a lot more than idol worshipping it is a religion just like any other

I'm sure the european slave traders said the same thing..............
anyway even if what you say is true, Africans were not originally muslim if they had to convert

The Arabs weren't originally Muslim either until Muhammad brought Islam to them...what's your point?

The Africans who practice their traditional religions weren't BORN practicing it but LEARN how to practice it from those they grow up around.
So no religion is genetic.

I never said Islam was an "African" religion; I was just adressing you saying that there were no African Muslims during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.

And I also wanted to let it be known that the ONLY religion that wasforces on Africans in masswas Christianity...not Islam, Budhism, Hinduism, or anything else.

My point is that the "true" religion of Africans (which blackbeauty mistakenly said was Islam) is neither christianity or Islam, these were forced on them.

The difference between an African learning aboutAfrican religions and islam is that African religions evolved from Africans themselves, and the way they saw the world. For Africansthey're religion was not a once a week thing itsomething that affected all they're actions. So its no surprise that when Africans practiscedAfrican religions Africa waslargely peaceful
