OK, I'm going to be a bit controversial. As a black, Christian woman I have attended a few churches in my time. I have encountered some form of overt racism in most of the churches I attended. Yet this problem never was tackled as it often came from the top. The only church that I can honestly say made me feel truly welcome and loved was one that was led by a african american woman. The others with white male pastors unfortunately were steeped in the type of racist beliefs that would make your toes curl. I've been living in West London and am yet to find the church that I can call home, which is a real shame. Any tips on a good church I can go to would be gratefully received.

I go to Kings Church and its really good. Its mainly white though, there are a few black families. We did have quite a lot of black african families in my church but a couple of years ago, they disagreed with something my pastor said and instead of sitting down and sorting it out they left and formed a new church. Now in my area there are an abundance of black churches. I would say there is racism and definetly stereotyping in white churches however as a mixed race person, so far, I havent felt accepted in black churches. Though I have only been to a few. My Grandad is a retired pastor of one of the New testment church of God churches and my mom decided to move out of the who black church thing becasue the views on certain things was kinda weird. I do feel accepted in my church that I go to now. I like mixed churches and not totally black and not totally white this could just be due to the fact that Ive always been surrounded my a mix of races eg in school and out. Whereas my sister definetly feels more accepted in a fully black church but then shes only really been around black people, though she herself is mixed race.

Just like any other man made institution, why should we expect the church to be any different?
Honestly, although I'm not a Christian I've read the (King James)bible cover to cover and really don't see much racism toward blacks. Most of the racism I've see was either pro-Israel or anti-European/Gentile; but other than that's it's not what one would call "racist" in the commonly used sense of the word.
The PROBLEM is that most Christians who come from the Protestant stock aren't practicing what's IN that Bible.
They either intellectualize it away as irrelevant mythology or just totally ignore it all together and continue in their practices and desires which are usually self-centered and materialistic.
Paul said there is neither Jew nor Gentile but ALL is one in Christ, so that SHOULD HAVE solved the problem of racism in the Church if indeed the people were practicing what they preach. But they aren't.
But I got news for you,
....Micheal Jackson said: Youuuu are nooot alooooone!
If you think the Church has a race problem; you haven't seen the full effects of racism until you start going into some of these Muslim communities where racism is so blatant and institutionalized that most people won't even bother to discuss it. blktrainers
