Kanobi:

Just because your name is Canopy....don't mean you have to act so "shady"!

I didn't ask you whether or not you agreed with the article; I asked whether or not you agreed with Paul the Apostle who said women shouldn't be allowed to speak in church.

Well, I cant disagree, The scripture says exactly what it says and if you are a christian or bible believer then you should do just that, except it, but to me personally I Dont buy into anything that stops me from learning. Talking and listening is how you learn and I cant be apart of any group that trys to stop my learning based on what I have between my legs. I thought christians and bible people are supposedly to be about the spirituality and not the flesh, so why do people make such big deals over sex when its not the flesh that counts. will you still be a women in heaven under strict guidlines even though you no longer have estrogen, a vagina or a body? Who ever has something to say thats intelligent and can add on should and its our lost if we don't allow them. Thats not Godly to me no matter what the bible says, thats just plain ignorant and since God is supposed to be the know it all, I dont think he would be ignorant or promote such ignorance.

chubbichix, do you see now why we say that the bible has become corrupted?

we believe its been tampered with to ostricise women and keep men in a position of superiority.

the prophet muhammed encouraged everyone to learn, and there are many passages in the Quran that encourage you to study Gods signs. His signs including, clouds, plants, human body, solar system etc.

all these issues with women

when jesus came he showed by huis own leadership that a woman is not a second rate cisizen a woman was created not to walk behind the man be hidden from view et al . man and woman must walk side by side. anything else is not good.

the woman who was going to be stoned Jesus asked all the men and villagers if any of them has never sinned to cast the first stone. no one stoned the woman. women prohecised all the time and women were and are deemed as important as the man

as for that piece that has been quoted one needs to delve deeper into why that letter was written and what was going on at the time.

And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,

That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;

Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

Your young men shall see visions,

Your old men shall dream dreams.

And on My menservants and on My maidservants

I will pour out My Spirit in those days

Joel 2: 28 - 29; Acts 2: 17 - 18

Corinthians 14:5

[suP]5[/suP]I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

It seems to me that God gave out according to prophesy as a poster as already posted above, the gift of prophesy to his daughters. That his Spirit would be poured out upon his maidservants. Apostle Paul then spells out for us that the gift of prophesy is a high gift, this is also said by Moses in Old Testment.

Then Paul tells us, that prophesying is for the edification of the church.

For him to teach this, and then say Women keep silent either means the bible contradicts itself here or like LadyDay as said we must look deeper into what was going on at the church in Corinth.

To me to read that passage and look no more into it than what you wish to take from it to subjugate someone else is not wise.

And judging from the verses I have shown you, I personally would not take that passage of scripture and try to enforce a rule like that on God's daughters. Lest God raise them up to prophesy and silence me. God ain't easy and God is not the Koran... The Koran is a book, God is God. We must be careful how we use his word, and trying to apply understanding.

In this case I am unsure what the scripture Ahmaad showed us here does mean, but I know it is not as clear cut as he would wish it. As Kanobi wrote once, you guys really need to stop reading in a vacuum passages of scripture, really you do.

However any of you want to present it...

The verse clearly says....

1 Corinthians 14:34
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

1 Corinthians 14:35
And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

...So either you follow what you believe to be the word of god, or you dont, the choice is yours....

Better to make sure you follow with understanding.

The proverbist wrote, Get knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding, but above all get understanding.

A man can have all the knowledge readily available to him, and be unwise as to how to use or understand what is before him/her.

Exactly.

Don't make excuses or try to spin the words around...either except it or reject it.

blkwonderHmmmmm....

JV, if you were on trial for your life and a judge ordered you to KEEP SILENT IN THE COURT and if you have any questions ASK YOUR LAWYER.....

Would you point to the lawyers and witnesses and say since THEY are speaking and have spoken then you should also have that right?

Or would you just obey the judge's instructions and keep your mouth shut?

All:

Again, I'd like to re-iterate that as a Muslim I DO NOT AGREE with either of those passages and feel women should have the right to not onlyspeak in all religious institutions, but learn in them as well.

No soul should be held responsible for another.

here is a little explanation

basically the church of corinth was corrupted by the people hanging on to theor old ways and not fully submitting to God. the women when they came to church were gossiping and their were rifts between jews ans gentile women. while the service was going on all sorts of madness was taking place and the women seemed to be the cause through their gossiping. also at this church people were more concerned with speaking tongues than developing true relation with God

paul as a result tried to give them an order that they could follow to resove the issues facing the corinth church. hence one problem was that women would not be quiet in church whilst service was going on so Paul instructed them to ensure that the women be silent in this church to resolve one issue. however Paul did point out that it is not a command of God but an order by him to give order in that church.

Paul is not saying that women can never speak in church just dont cause a disruption to service. simple.

also the man is the head of the woman in the household in those days no one would be living single.

so we need to read the entire book of corinthians to see what leads us to the scritpture.

anyway this is what i am told by my friend who is a man of God very blessed soul.

if i get anything else i will post

God bless

This is whatI said from time, 'Christians' pick and choose what they want to believe; if its anything directed at someone else - like gays - they would scream and screech every passage from the bible as to why its not acceptable, yet when its something like this its, yeah but ..., t
