Because in your real life you're facing a situation you can't handle and you feel helpless... You'll be dreaming about drowning soon if this carries on.

I'm the opposite. Most of my dreams involve things chasing me from lions, the vietcong and even killer dinosaurs the other night.

I wake up dripping in sweat and freezing cold.

@BP, I agree with the Watcher re: feeling helpless. Maybe it's time to stop trying to fight and work your situation out in another way - a different way, stop running.

@Stick up kid, ahhh.maybe it's time to stop reading those horror stories b4 bedtime! My friend used to read all the horror books under the sun, and always had messed up dreams like your!

Sorry BP, can I use this thread about a dream I had last week. Thank you

I had a dream which to me seemed as though I had just woken up from a dream, I then went to the kitchen to get something, what I realised was that the kitchen window by the sink was open, I thought this was a little weird as I have not been able to open that particular window for some time, further because it was different from my regular window which can only be opened at the top end; this window was a side window and was able to open right out, I closed the window, and on leaving the kitchen I noticed that my fridge which is located just as I leave the kitchen was gone, I sort of panicked, then thought to my self, let me go upstairs, I went straight to the front room and was in total shock because my place was not as I remember it now, what was more scary to me was the fact that what I was experiencing felt real! I remember saying to myself, ‘I know I’m not dreaming!’ My living room was just a clutter of mess, I did not recognise much except, on the wall which would be the joining bedroom wall there lay a make shift bed, I almost recognised the duvet cover to be one that I had years ago! There was no TV, no sofa’s - nothing, except in the same place it is now, my Ikea shelve, I remember looking at it in horror, there was a picture of me which was laid down on the shelf, the background or the top I wore was blue and I was in the pic which reminded me of being a young girl (mid twenties). I then saw a small kind of rounded bag it was when I went to look into this bag I thankfully woke out of the dream!

This dream has got me very concerned because it felt so real to me, it was almost as though I knew within myself, ‘but I have past this stage of my life! What is going on’ Further because it was as though my past life and my present life were merged, but my past life seemed much more worst than it ever was, and all that I have built up over the years had gone - material possessions. On waking, I was panicked internally and immediately said ’god forbid’ The dream was obviously telling me something! And as I thought about the dream I realised that all of my possessions had gone, but I seemed to have forgotten about where I am in my life, in terms of personal growth.

Any one care to share their thought about what this may have meant? Thank you in anticipation.

why cant I fight or run in my dreams?

Basically because you are slow and weak.

Consider not trying to fight in the first place. Very few fights go the way you want them to in dreams, fortunately.

Most of mine tend to be lucid so I just f**k about for the sake of it. Mine can't mean anything if I'm in control of what happens in them 70% of the time. It's your actions in the dream and not what you see in them that count. People could learn alot about themselves if they but try. People get distracted by symbols and things, which are not universal in the first place.

In a nutshell you're afraid of change or you panic in the face of change. Your feelings and actions in the dream demonstrated that fact. Most people don't mentionhow they feel in dreams so it's pretty hard to reason out an answer.

Think about what you don't like about your character and how it behaved in the dream and think about how you would like to modify it and behave in that situation, and then next time when faced with something similarin the dream act differently more inline with your desires. If you manage to pull it of it's like programming your subconscious directly, and then in real life you'll find when faced with that situation if ever, you'll behave the same way, or at least feel like behaving in that fashion.

Now if people did that more often folks wouldn't have recurring nightmares.

I'm the complete opposite. Not only can I run and fight in my dreams but I also engage in epic battles in which I can also fly. The problem is that my dreams never end and sometimes I have continuations of the same dream from one night to the other. I don't really know why you can't fight or run in your dreamsbut dreams tend to reflect what's going on in your life. I've always wondered why I can never have "normal" dreams. A lot of my dreams tend to involve death but never my own.

I am the opposite too.

In my dreams I can fight like a lion and run like a cheetah. It's in real live I get the cr*p beaten out of me and old ladies on walking sticks are able to overtake me in a breeze.

Respect

There are those who feel that the only way to ‘prove their own worth’ is by ‘devaluing the worth of others’. You will often find that a man who is compelled to measure his substance against the substance of another, has little of substance in the first place!

Thanks Peacemaker. Is that what you reckon it denotes.

How did I feel in the dream? Well,I feltconfused (because my past and presentwere seemingly merged).

Has anyone ever had sleep paralysis? Where your brain has woken up but your body is still in sleep mode? Ohh my gosh.

I used to get it all the time especially when I used to watch BBC Breakfast half asleep. All of a sudden I'd be unable to breath and unable to open my eyes. Things can be heard in the background but I cannot speak.

Its horrible, a bit like drowning. You have to relax your mind and then eventually you snap out of it.
