Default Qur'anic references to "Jesus" - 07-11-07, 03:20 AM

FYI...hopefully for healthy discussion...
====================================

2:87 And We indeed gave Moses the Book and We sent messengers after him one after another and We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear arguments and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit. Is it then that whenever there came to you a messenger with what your souls desired not, you were arrogant? And some you gave the lie to and others you would slay.

2:136 Say: We believe in Allah and (in) that which has been revealed to us, and (in) that which was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and (in) that which was given to Moses and Jesus, and (in) that which was given to the prophets from their Lord, we do not make any distinction between any of them and to Him do we submit.

2:253 We have made some of these messengers to excel others. Among them are they to whom Allah spoke, and some of them He exalted by (many) degrees of rank. And We gave clear arguments to Jesus son of Mary, and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit. And if Allah had pleased, those after them would not have fought one with another after clear arguments had come to them, but they disagreed; so some of them believed and some of them denied. And if Allah had pleased they would not have fought one with another, but Allah does what He intends.

3:44 When the angels said: O Mary, surely Allah gives you good news with a word from Him (of one) whose name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, worthy of regard in this world and the Hereafter, and of those who are drawn nigh (to Allah),
45 And he will speak to the people when in the cradle and when of old age, and (he will be) one of the good ones.
46 She said: My Lord, how can I have a son and man has not yet touched me? He said: Even so; Allah creates what He pleases. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, Be, and it is.
47 And He will teach him the Book and the Wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel:
48 And (make him) a messenger to the Children of Israel (saying): I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, that I determine for you out of dust the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird with Allah's permission, and I heal the blind and the leprous, and bring the dead to life with Allah's permission; and I inform you of what you should eat and what you should store in your houses. Surely there is a sign in this for you, if you are believers.
49 And (I am) a verifier of that which is before me of the Torah, and I allow you part of that which was forbidden to you; and I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so keep your duty to Allah and obey me.
50 Surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so serve Him. This is the right path.

3:54 When Allah said: O Jesus, I will cause you to die and exalt you in My presence and clear you of those who disbelieve and make those who follow you above those who disbelieve to the day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, so I shall decide between you concerning that wherein you difter.

3:58 The likeness of Jesus with Allah is truly as the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then said to him, Be, and he was.
59 (This is) the truth from your Lord, so be not of the disputers.

3:83 Say: We believe in Allah and that which is revealed to us, and that which was revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and that which was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord; we make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we submit.

4:157 And for their saying: We have killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of Allah, and they killed him not, nor did they cause his death on the cross, but he was made to appear to them as such. And certainly those who differ therein are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge about it, but only follow a conjecture, and they killed him not for certain:
158 Nay, Allah exalted him in His presence. And Allah is ever Mighty, Wise.
159 And there is none of the People of the Book but will believe in this before his death; and on the day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them.

4:171 O People of the Book, exceed not the limits in your religion nor speak anything about Allah, but the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, is only a messenger of Allah and His word which He communicated to Mary and a mercy from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And say not, Three. Desist, it is better for you. Allah is only one God. Far be it from His glory to have a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And sufficient is Allah as having charge of affairs.
172 The Messiah disdains not to be a servant of Allah, nor do the angels who are near to Him. And whoever disdains His service and is proud, He will gather them all together to Himself.

5:46 And We sent after them in their footsteps Jesus, son of Mary, verifying that which was before him of the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel containing guidance and light, and verifying that which was before it of the Torah, and a guidance and an admonition for the dutiful.

5:112 When the disciples said: O Jesus, son of Mary, is your Lord able to send down food to us from heaven? He said: Keep your duty to Allah if you are believers.
113 They said: We desire to eat of it, and that our hearts should be at rest, and that we may know that you have indeed spoken truth to us, and that we may be witnesses thereof.
114 Jesus, son of Mary, said: O Allah, our Lord, send down to us food from heaven which should be to us an ever-recurring happiness to the first of us and the last of us, and a sign from You, and give us sustenance and you are the Best of the sustainers.

5:116 And when Allah will say: O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to men, Take me and my mother for two gods besides Allah? He will say: Glory be to You! it was not for me to say what I had no right to (say). If I had said it, You would indeed have known it. You know what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Your mind. Surely you are the great Knower of the unseen.
117 I said to them naught save as You did command me: Serve Allah, my Lord and your Lord; and I was a witness of them so long as I was among them, but when You caused me to die You were the Watcher over them. And you are Witness of all things.
118 If You chastise them, surely they are Your servants; and if You protect them, surely you are the Mighty, the Wise.

6:84 And this was Our argument which We gave to Abraham against his people. We exalt in degrees whom We please. Surely your Lord is Wise, Knowing.
85 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob. Each did We guide; and Noah did We guide before, and of his descendants, David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. And thus do We reward those who do good (to others):
86 And Zacharias and John and Jesus and Elias; each one (of them) was of the righteous,
87 And Ishmael and Elisha and Jonah and Lot; and each one (of them) We made to excel the people;

Bismillaah ir Rahmaan ir Rahiim. As salaamu 'alaykum. My understanding of "We," as used in The Bounteous Qur'an, is that it is referring to those assigned to work as helpers in the divine mission. This would conceivably include the Prophets, Arch Angels, angels, and others in the hierarchies; Peace Be Upon Them, All.

The formation of Adam [PBUH], as I understand it, was from dust [but, ethereal substance (primordial matter)]. However, here on planet earth we are made of denser material, or blood congealed, as stated in The Holy Qur'an.

Wassalaam. OriginalBM

when i study the bible it helps to know who is speaking, who is being spoken to and the context in which he or she is speaking.

many people take advantage of people by taking quotes out of context.

Of these statements about Jesus there are only a couple that I have issue with.

but i would like to know who the WE is who is speaking because one verse clearly shows that it is not Allah.

Admittedly, some of these verses are taken out of a fuller context.

The "We" who "gave Moses the Book" is the same "We" that said, "Let US make man".

The "We" who is told to say, "We believe in Allah...", is obviously the Believers in Allah (God). And the One who is telling them to "Say" this is Allah (God).

The Holy Qur'an is the record of a "direct communication" between Allah and His Messenger.

You will not find in the Qur'an many instances of a "third party" account of God speaking to Muhammad (PBUH), i.e., "And God said to Muhammad..." ...or... "And Muhammad said to God..."

For the most part, the Qur'an reads as if it were written or communicated directly from Allah to His Messenger.

Whereas, in the Bible, it is almost exclusively a "third party" account..."And God said this....and God did that....and Jesus went....".

Even the parts in the Bible where God says, "I will..." or the like, are prefaced with the "third party" intro; "And God said, 'I will...' ".

But anyway...that is a little off topic.

I'd be interested in what verses you take issue with...

i hear you mrmuhammed.

The bible is God speaking to his people through men inspired by the Holy Spirit. As you say (I have not read it to see) the koran is Allah speaking to Muhammed and visa versa. None the less the mission of God is to instruct His people. His conversation to Muhammed was to enlighten him so he could tell the believer right.

I am sure that you know right off the bat mrmuhammud which ones i have ought against.

4:157; 3:83 stand out. I will look over the others and give any thing else later.

What is it about those two verses that you take issue with?

I'm not looking for a debate, but a healthy, reasoned discussion.

If you don't feel comfortable going into it here, you can IM me, or email me:

Looking forward to your response.

I understand that this is what is taught in the koran, I am just saying that the bible differs from this statement.

Again this one differs from what the bible teaches.

Footnote: I have not attacked islam since we have been on this thread or any others. I don't think it appropriate or right to do that. I have only defended Christianity. The young man Abdrrath accused me of pushing my "religion" (which christianity is not one) on him or people. I have not done that.

I will be glad to debate what my teachings say against yours anytime, but not in the spirit of a contest of egos etc. simply a defense of what we each believe or anyone else who would add to the thread.

I am ready to give hope to them which are without at anytime. but my teachings tell me that argument is not an option. it is not necessary, it this not whence cometh wars and rumors of wars?

I am on the move presently and will be home shortly and will be glad to speak to you on these matters.

I am aware of what you are saying...as I have, and study, the Bible as well.

This certainly seems to be the case, if looked at from the traditional, common interpretation. However, there are Christian scholars as well who are not so sure that Jesus actually died on the Cross...

Again... This post is not intended for "debate" of any kind, but for reasoned discussion; primarily to inform those who may not be aware of the place of Honor that Jesus holds in the Holy Qur'an, and among Muslims.

We just disagree with the "King James Version" of Jesus...
