Is the drill "Steps" related distantly to the traditional wedding steps of Zimbabwe ?

Sblizzy: it is very impressive...however for me its a contradiction that highlights the split personality that is the NOI.. I cannot reconcile the imitation of colonialist ideals and yet speak against the very ideal with the promotion of their brand of Islam...

Dunno about imitation of colonial ideal Kunjufu, militarys all over the world have military tatoos and drills for public display. It ties the people to the military.

But who are these strange “Arabs” in Sudan, located so deep inside black Africa? They are the Jellaba Arabs, the part-African descendants of Arab slave procurers of earlier centuries. In Arab society, the half-Arab hybrid is called hajin and ranks lower than the full Arab. And the part-black hajins (to whom “blackness had passed from their mothers”) rank lowest in social status in Arab society. In Sudan one is classified an Arab if one is Muslim and speaks Arabic, and especially if one has the light (red) skin of the part-black hajin. Most of these Sudanese Arabs are actually Nubian-Arab mixed breeds (hajins) who are culturally Arabized. For being part- African, these hajins from Sudan are held in contempt by the true Arabs.

These despised black wannabe Arabs are so desperate to earn acceptance by the white and true Arabs that they have become fanatical agents for Arab expansionism into black Africa. The white Arabs, for their part, though despising these wannabe Arabs, gladly use them as monkey’s paw to advance Arab expansionism. Arab minority rule in Sudan is as if the Cape Coloreds of South Africa had inherited power in 1948, proclaimed themselves Europeans, and then proceeded to inflict apartheid, war and genocide on the black South Africans as the first stage in a racist mission to repopulate all of black Africa with Europeans.

Gleaned from;

Khartoum’s scheming and a suggested Black African Response,

I wanted to know if the Dagara elders could tell the diffrence between fiction and reality. The elders did not understand what a starship is, they did not understand what the fussy uniforms had to do with anything but they recognized in Spock a Kontomble of the seventh planet... they had never seen a Kontomble that big.

Still, I like a bit of militancy and that was impressive.

No one drill marches like we, all of that is straight out of Africa, war dances and so on.

Props

But Kunjufu if they came out with some Zulu dance or whatever umpteen people would call it fake and insulting and which also which one of many different African dances are they supposed to do? For a Military tatoo I thought it was cool. Besides, many african nations armies march exactly like that nowadays. As a display, not only of numbers but precision and discipline and prowess, it was good.

I come at this from a completely different tact. I kinda agree with K on this but not passionately..Think these are important disciplines and The Watcher is right I go and watch my family back home when they have important processsions and it is straight out of western military and policing schools..but that aint my issue..

My fundamental issue is with the NOI which in private I think are jokers..and entertainers not radical or soldiers in any shape of the word..They love this symbolic shit and that is all it is symbolic entertainment..I have never ever taken the NOI as a security military capacity as serious because they are not just joke business for beat down mash up black people who are emotionally desperate just like cheap praise of black women or people who just need stroking.

All them people are doing is training those kids to march up the local boulevard to sell newspapers..or make Farrakhan look good. Nobody in the intelligence world take the NOI as serious in anything..Even in the film Malcolm X when he marches to the police station with the FOI makes me cringe and when me and my boys watch that piss ourselves with laughter, because it is so embarrassing..Tell me does anybody know of any major operation EVER where the NOI had to send large numbers of their marching or non marching troops to engage or deploy

No that piece in the film about Malcolm is as good as it gets and that is shameful.
That is why when the UDR and IRA and other sectarian organisations in Northern Ireland march so many of those boys are hooded up..because they don't march for show. They are a serious fighting organisation who enforce law and order and the will of their leadership on whoever crosses their path..

Entertainment and nothing less, whether they are dancing to Colonial European or Zulu or Mdebele marching protocols means jack to me..Its about what is the desired purpose of such practices

Fredb

The point of a tatoo has always been the same. Wether it was Caesar with a wreath on his head and his spoils of war behind him or Shaka and his stamping dancing Impis. It's a public display and it's for the people. It's about pride and a "show" of strength and so on. It's meant to be entertaining. The British army do it, I watched one only last year.

Lots of gold uniforms, impractical costumes, big wide hats and silly shiny shoes. It looked like a procession of clowns. Yet nobody would take the actual army itself for a joke. Just because they marched without fatigues and in a marching band with children and girls doesn't mean you arern't looking at an actual squad of killers.

It's all about impressing your people and making them feel not only linked to you but proud of you. Mothers and sons, wives and their husbands and so on.

TW..said that 'It's all about impressing your people and making them feel not only linked to you but proud of you. Mothers and sons, wives and their husbands and so on.'

True but it seems to me just symptomatic of the whole organisation in that area..nothing but show..Don't even mind the kids doing it but that is what the lot of them seem to be in my eye just stroking ego and making people feel good..especially Farrahkan..but then again when the mood takes him he will grab a mike and sing, bus a few moves, get the violent out and then get out the piano and do a Little Richard..What's next only god knows

Seems to me we could use a lil feeling good though.

I seperate it from Farrakahns showmanship also as it's a communal thing.
