Wimbledon... -

So, it's a 4th Williamses Ladies' final at Wimbledon. I expected Serena's match to be tighter than Venus' but not to the extent that it was! I love her never-say-die attitude and the way she saved match point on her serve. I feel sorry for Dinara Safina who got thrashed by Venus. I thought Venus made some very respectful remarks about her after the match when a journalist tried to catch her out in the post-match interview. Each time Venus and Serena descend upon SW19 I admire them more and more. Can you imagine if they were British? There's no way they would have ascended to the heights they have regardless of how ambitious their dad was - just look at the way the British public and press have responded to Murray him not having the same very English middle-class home counties background and mannerisms of Henman.
Re Murray..can he do it tomorrow? If he can stay focussed and serve and return well against Roddick then I think he will have a chance although Roddick has made it to the final twice before.

I'll be pleased for Murray if he wins, though I can't see him getting past Federer - I think Roddick will also push him hard.
Think Serena vs Venus will be a good one too - they both want to win and how - Serena showed that today. Credit to Dementieva though.
And Safina the world no. 1? As Serena said, we all know who the real no. 1 is.

Roddick brought an A+ game and Murray couldn't cope. If he can reproduce that on Sunday he'll have a chance, otherwise may as well give Federer the trophy now. Gave Roddick a severe beating in the final a few years back - should be closer this time.
As for Murray, his time will come. Plenty to learn from this.

Apparently Roddick had 71% of his first serves in as opposed to Murray's 56% so that obviously didn't help Murray. I think his best chance of winning a Grand Slam is at the US Open but I suppose for the great old British public only Wimbledon will do.
The way Federer played today I think he will be making history on Sunday.

Well done to Serena for winning her third Wimbledon singles title yesterday. I thought that Venus might find it difficult to come back after losing the first set in a tie-break. Congratulations for both of them also for winning the doubles. It was amazing to see their name dominate the winner's role-of-honour board for the last 10 years. I thought it was interesting that they used 2 black ball girls to carry out their rackets on to the court at the beginning. I wonder if that was deliberate or a coincidence?
What a match the men's final turned out to be! I thought last years final was long but 16-14 in the last set this time....wow. All I remember thinking was that I would feel sorry for whoever was on the losing end of that. I don't think anyone expected Roddick to challenge Federer the way he did today, but towards the end I thought (or hoped) that he would be the first to buckle just observing how he was slowing down and Federer didn't even appear to have a bead of sweat on his face! I'm glad that Federer made history today.

Those 4 set points in the second set will haunt Roddick for the rest of his days if he never wins Wimbledon.
Had he gone two sets up he cold have destroyed Federer psychologically,by losing he gave him an opening.
Roddick played out of his skin today,I felt sorry for him.
As for the Williams sisters, they fill my heart with joy, they handle themselves with such grace and class, even in the face of some stupid ass ost match questions.
Congratulations to Serena on her victory....and for getting more attractive every year.
Also mad, mad, mad, mad, mad props to their sometimes crazy ass but completely devoted father Richard who has done so much to shape them and also kudos to their Mother Oracene for just holding it all down and being a Queen....as we do!!

...Where were they sitting? Were they together? I heard rumours that Serena was dating Common but I don't know if that's true. I don't remember seeing them in the players' box. The people sitting with her mother looked like fellow Jehovah's Witnesses.

...as I watched that set I had this feeling that Roddick would lose those set points. Only Rafael Nadal seems to have been able to get into Federer's head. Throughout that match I got the impression that Federer did not think he was going to lose.
Also, during the match, the cameraman seemed to have some sort of obsession with Roddick's very blond Aryan-looking wife. Even when he didn't win a point they would focus their lens on her. I don't have anything against Roddick but if he'd won you can bet you'd be seeing more of her than him in the closing credits of the programme!

Interesting article about Serena in today's Guardian, with the usual predictable comments.

kelly was sitting next to the mum, she a long wavy weave and wore suglasses. common was sitting away from the player's box but he was in the row that was next to it at the front (i dont know if that makes sense?) but they only zoomed in on him once.

I didn't realise that was her, it didn't look like her. So it was a blink and you'll miss it kind of view of Common. It seems that the cameramen were only interested in showing the friends/spouses of players if they were female, blond and size zeros.
