Why are England so bloody hyped up? I mean they have only won the world cup once in 1996......back then footbal was not as skillful as it is now.
In contrast to this Brazil have won 5 times let me say that again FIVE TIMES yet we hardly hear any media attention on them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean can someone tell me why?

DM summed it up perfectly here.
If you were in any other country that was playing in the world cup, the media there would be hyping up their country's chances of winning the world cup just like they are in England.

Dont mean to sound patronising, but we all know the US is an exceptional case when it comes to 'soccer.'

Then your media are underselling your team. FIFA has them ranked 5th in the world standings...

While not being a true #5 team in the world, we have a good chance of going to the second round based on our team speed, staggered play, and tenacity. Plus we play better with Reyna OFF the field notice we did not go out in the last WC until Reyna came back.

Blitz,
But the US can't buy a goal to save its life with the line-ups Arena puts on the field.
BTW, the Titans treated McNair like crap and Vince Young is nowhere near being ready.

i think when the USA start to want this, then we can see them being a real force. But domestic game has to be stronger
Have they started going into the hood and picking up them brothers who are too small for NBA and dont fancy but have the athleticism for other sports
You ever heard of the Golden Rule. He who has the gold makes the rules!
He who asks is a fool for five minutes. He who never asks remains a fool for ever.

I think you have a good point there. If the strategy was to invest in the sport and promote it on a domestic level, I think the US could become a world force in football.

Sure, it would not happen overnight, but if interest in the sport could be cultivated at grass root level and a lot of the 'potential' athletic ability in the urban backstreets harnessed and focused in that direction, the US would have to be taken seriously in years to come.

There are those who feel that the only way to ‘prove their own worth’ is by ‘devaluing the worth of others’. You will often find that a man who is compelled to measure his substance against the substance of another, has little of substance in the first place!

Don't put too much faith into the FIFA world rankings.
The rankings are based only on games won and loss. Doesn't take into effect which teams you've played as well. So if you've been playing a lot of teams technically inferior to yourselves and have a good record against such teams, your ranking goes up.
Kinda explains how the US reached No. 5 in the world....
