Juventus are ready to concede defeat in their bid to snatch Javier Mascherano from under the noses of Liverpool, but skysports.com understands that the Premiership side are yet to petition Fifa regarding any transfer of the West Ham man.
The Reds are known to be keen on recruiting the Argentinian international on loan for the remainder of the season, but recent reports had suggested that long-standing admirers Juventus were launching a renewed bid to lure the midfielder to Italy.
Hammers boss Alan Curbishley has stated his belief that Mascherano, and international colleague Carlos Tevez, would not be leaving Upton Park due to Fifa regulations that prevent players performing for three clubs between 1st July and 30th June.
Despite the problems regarding red tape, Liverpool are believed to be hopeful of finding a way around the regulations in order to secure the signature of the player who made such an impression at Corinthians before seeing his form slump at Upton Park.
Now The Reds appear to be in pole position to land Mascherano after Juve's general director Alessio Secco confirmed that the MSI-owned star is close to a move to Anfield.
"Mascherano? It is a complicated situation either on a federal level or for his ownership," Secco told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Anyway now he is really close to Liverpool."
Following the Bianconeri's admission, only the outstanding legal issues with Fifa appear to be standing in the way of the holding midfielder completing a loan move to Anfield.
However, skysports.com has learnt that Fifa's legal department are yet to receive any correspondence from the Premiership club.

From Sky Sports web site. To be honest we already have two defensive midflielders and lastseason we had threehence why Hamann left i think. If we need a new centralmidfielder then we should get an attacking central midfielder because zenden isaverage and Gerrard is the onlyone that can make adecent attck from the centre midfield.

Le moor, Kewell showed flashes of his best form last season when he was fit. I'm confident that if he gets fit, (which is the main challenge because skeptic arthritis sounds horrible-herecently said he cant kick a ball right now) then he's likely to show his best from again. The main challegne isnt his ability, but his fitness.

Interesting - Haven't lost a game at anfield in how long, haven't conceded a goal at anfield in how long, put dudek in for the fa cup and not only lose but concede 3 goals, manager's last real domestic hope is the carling cup but he insists on playing dudek because it was a promise he made to him at the beginning of the season i.e. dudek plays in all the domestic cup competitions - guess that means he would have played him with one leg on crutches...who ever said football was all about winning trophies:?confused2

It's got to the point where Kunjufu must be bored of laughing at us.When we lost to arsenal at the emirates and the league title was surely gone, i thought that the season slump couldnt get any worse. How wrong I was. Talk about a false dawn!

LOL! We're not Real Madrid! We dont freak out with a knee jerk reaction and sack the manager immediately. We bide our time. Wont deny that the thought of sacking did creep my mind though.

Bored..I'm literally wetting myself laughing....here was I thinking Benitz was gonna come out with his strongest side to get what should have been an easy win..... but nooo this clown picks that idiot goal keeper Dudek and waters down his team... and then looked totally surprised when got the arsing his decision it quite rightly derserved.....

And to make matter worse..he effectvely crocked his three BEST midfielders, there was a time when Anfield and liverpool struck fear in the heart..now it triggers howls of laughter at coco the clown and his merry men at the circus!!!
