Darren Bent goes to Tottenham, what a friggin waste.

Benitez needs to start looking right underneath his very own nose if wants a real goal scorer. That one signing there, he will either live to regret or grossly envy.

In fact all four of their strikers i would put in front of ours if you had to ask whos capable of scoring the most goals?

Is it official then?

I want Bent and Torres.

Bent is not to be underestimated. He's proven in the Premiership and has only ever needed a decent team. Wait and see.

Liverpool Football Club has announced that Spanish striker Fernando Torres passed a medical on Tuesday and will complete his move to Anfield later today.
The 23-year-old is expected to make the deal official this afternoon before being unveiled to the media.

A club spokesman said: "The player has passed a medical. All the agreements are now in place and he will put pen to paper on the deal on Wednesday."

The striker has spent the previous 12 years at Atletico Madrid, the club he supported as a boy. The Spanish giants snapped him up at the age of 11 after he netted 55 goals in his first season at amateur side Rayo 13.

Three years after his arrival, Torres was named the best under-14 player in Europe following his performances in the Nike Cup. He signed his first professional contract in 1999 but had to wait until May 27, 2001 to make his debut against Leganes.

Still, at 17 years and 68 days, he was Atletico's youngest ever player. Within a week, he'd scored his first goal in a match against Albacete.

The 2001-02 season saw him net six times in 36 league appearances, helping his side win promotion to La Liga.

Meanwhile, he was still making waves on the international scene.

Torres was top scorer and player of the tournament in the 2001 European Under-16 Championships and 2002 European Under-19 Championships, both of which Spain won.

The frontman bagged 13 goals during his first season in the Spanish top flight, earning him a first under-21 cap for his country.

The 2003-04 campaign proved to be a momentous one for Torres. Not only did he score 19 goals in 35 league appearances, but he was also handed the club captaincy. At 19, he was the youngest skipper in Atletico's long and illustrious history.

On top of all this, the youngster was also called up into the senior Spain squad, making his full debut in a friendly with Portugal on September 6, 2003. The following April he scored his first international goal against Italy. He was then part of the Spain squad which traveled to Euro 2004 in Holland and Belgium.

Torres got his first and only taste of European competition when Atletico entered the Intertoto Cup prior to the 2004-05 campaign. He scored twice in five games but tasted defeat in the final at the hands of Villarreal.

The player nicknamed El Nino (The Kid) because of his youthful appearance was selected for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where he scored three goals.

In May 2007 Torres hit the headlines when he revealed the words 'You'll Never Walk Alone' on the inside of his captain's armband during a match against Real Sociedad.

If he completes his move to Anfield as expected on Wednesday, he'll leave Atletico with a record of 82 goals in 214 league appearances.

Gutted momo signed a new deal. It means more of gerrard on the right and probably not getting a new right winger. Let's hope we get someone reliable for the left. We aint been linked with him but i would like to see quaresma.

Who?

Benitez has made it known that wingers are his next priority. I still think we another top draw forward. Torres is a good signing and without a doubt a good player, but can he score 25+ goals a season? Thats all i want to know, because thats the difference between us winning the League or coming runners up...again.

Quaresma! Probably the finest winger in the portugese league right now whos style of play resembles that of cristiano ronaldo. Check him out on youtube and watch his skills.

I also agree that we need a prolific goal scorer. But that aint the way rafa works. He said in the torres press conference that he doesnt really like building the team around one striker, but prefers all his strikers to score around 15 goals each. If all our strikers could hit that mark then fine. But during our time with benitez, in each season there has only ever been one striker to pass that 15 goal mark if any.

T, Interesting stratergy. The way Benetiz rotates players, it means that each forward has to actually be more deadly with his 'goals per game ratio', for the statergy to be the same as having 1 prolific striker who plays regulary throughout the season. You also have issues with form that is built with consistency, and concluding in a players confidence, this cannont be denied.

Excluding Man U last year, 95% of championship winning teams have won the title by having at least 1 leading striker who scores aound 25 league goals a season. In fact last year Ronaldo more or less took over that responsibility for them. Ferguson is aware of this which is why hes always had a leading man who plays regulary and is still looking for one now.

So Benetiz's stratergy is one which is great in Europe, but for the title it's flowing against the tide imo. We shall see.

Rafael Benitez today explained why he was so keen to bring Yossi Benayoun to Anfield after the Israeli international completed his switch to Liverpool.
The 27-year-old midfielder put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at Anfield until 2011 on Thursday afternoon and Benitez believes he's just the player the Reds need to add extra creativity to their forward play.

"I first saw him play for Racing Santander in La Liga when he was a really good player, but when he first came to England we were watching to be sure he could adapt to a different style of football," said the Liverpool boss.

"It's clear he's done this very well at West Ham. Liverpool fans will remember how he played in the FA Cup Final against us when he was outstanding. We thought then this was a player who is capable of stepping up to a higher level.

"He was offered a big new contract at West Ham and received offers from a lot of other clubs offering him more money but Yossi's message was always the same. He said he was desperate to only join Liverpool because this was his dream. When Rick, the Americans and I spoke about the player, we all agreed this is the kind of attitude we and our supporters really like.

"When you have quality players with his ability showing so much passion to play for your club, it's really good for the team."

Under existing regulations, Liverpool will apply for a new work permit for the player.

Ajax's Ryan Babel will sign a five-year contract with Liverpool on Friday after the two clubs agreed a reported £11.5m deal for the striker.
"Liverpool have agreed terms with Ajax and Ryan Babel himself," said Reds spokesperson Ian Cotton.

Babel was a member of the Dutch team that won the European Under-21 Championship in June.

He made his Ajax debut in 2004 aged 17 and scored five goals in 27 Eredivisie matches last season.

Babel, who was linked with Arsenal, has also been capped 14 times by the full Dutch team.

Ajax technical director Martin van Geel had previously made it clear that the Dutch club did not want to sell Babel and were determined to secure a good price for the player.

"Liverpool are willing to pay a huge sum for Ryan," he said. "We have told them what we want, and that's 20m euros (£13.5m). That is our price.

"We would like to see Babel play here next season, it's not for nothing that we have extended his contract until June 2010," added Van Geel.

"But if these kind of clubs want to pay us these figures it says something.

"We will see if we can reach a deal in the coming days."

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has also signed forwards Fernando Torres and Andriy Voronin and attacking midfielder Yossi Benayoun.

I've seen babel play in the champions league. he looks an alright player. He's quick and has technical skill on the ball. The right attributes for a forward. Let's hope he turns out better than Nani.
