UK Athletics' decision to appoint ex-sprinter Linford Christie as a mentor to British athletes has been criticised by Paula Radcliffe.
Marathon world record holder Radcliffe felt the former world, Olympic and European 100 metres champion was an unsuitable role model for up-and-coming athletes because he served a two-year ban for doping after testing positive for the steroid nandrolone in 1999.
Christie, 46, has always denied taking performance-enhancing substances.
Asked if she thought Christie's role is a good idea, Radcliffe said: "Personally I don't think it is, no.
"We have to make sure that the people in that mentor role have an integrity and strong sense of ethics and morals."
"As a country we're leading the way in making sure that athletes know that when they come into the sport they know that they are competing fairly.
"If you do take shortcuts then you're not only cheating yourself and your fellow competitors but you're also cheating your country and your supporters.
"I don't think it's a mistake on the coaching side of things, but I don't think he should be in that mentor role."

Well i dont care if she's right or wrong.....Paula Radcliff is a fine one to speak about mentors.
Her performance in the Olympic Marathon where she new she couldnt win so STOPPED and cried like a baby was the worst example of sportmanship ive EVER seen.
If she had admitted to her attitude that day to being that of a losers, instead of putting it down to the heat as she did, i would not be saying she should now shut her mouth.

Le Moor: that is a fair point you raised about her character during the previous Olympics..can't argue with that opinion.. However the point still remains that Linford was found guilty of taking nandrolone(spelling), he hasn't to my knowledge explained the situation properly, so sorry I think its just wrong to have him involved when he haven't clarified to any satisfaction that issue..

'Lord' Coe makes me sick. I read a few years ago that he refused to speak to Christie at race meetings because Christie kept talking 'Jive'. What a dyamn cheek! There is a next white one called Steve something or other with ginger hair thats a presenter and ex-runner and said that he used to be friends with Chrisite and said that Christie never talked no 'Jive', Coe just didn't like him. From you see Coe you can see he's a racist. The darkest person he'll let near him is Dame kelly holmes and that's probably only because she's doing well and seems more 'white' in her outlook.

Never have I heard Linford talk jive, slang, street or anything like it. He is a clear spoken man and Seb Coe is transparent as thin glass.

For real! Everytime I've seen Christie on tv he has spoken properly! Even if I had never heard of the man, I would be able to tell that Coe was a racist, he just has that 'I'm superior' look about him, don't u think? The fact that he is a Tory and the Tories were brucking dem neck to get him to stand against Livingstone for Mayor of London says it all. Can imagine him at the golf club talking about how Britain should send all the ethnics back home!
