Henry 3 years? I'll remind you of that statement when we get to March and he is again leading the scoring charts, because as sure as Spring follows Winter, Henry will find his form this season.

you're all the same. Stuck in a timewarp in the days of Blanchflower and Greaves. You still believe in this divine right of being a big club, and you don't appreciate the fact that you are being left behind. I hear Charlton are looking into plans to fill in their corners boosting capacity to 40,000.

Even West Ham will have a bigger stadium than you if they get the old Hackney Market stadium. And where are the plans to expand your club? To enter the 21st century? They are stuck in the rambling red tape in Haringey Council and TFL who refuse to sanction the expansion of Northumberland Park or Seven Sisters station. So Spurs are stuck in a tiny 36,000 ground while the rest of their more successful London neighbours make do with much larger grounds.

All the pipe dreams about Olympic stadiums and Alexandra Palace have come to nothing. Just empty soundbites, just like the good old days when the Spurs board under Alan Sugarused to announce the impending arrival of superstars (Rivaldo etc) during pre season to coax the naievesouls to buy season tickets.

Champions League Qualification is the cornerstone of our season these days, its just a pipe dream for Spurs fans. We now have a stadium capable of generating enough money to remain a force even if the unthinkable happened and we missed out on the Champions League.

We have in place an infrastructure which will continue our success long after Wenger retires. You have only vague memories of Hoddle and Ardiles, of Gazza and Linekar. 2 trophies in 21 years (1 of which the league cup) says it all really. The world may indeed be round, but evolution comes with an acceptance that things will change. Spurs are clinging onto the past and as such will never be allowed to evolve.

The lower echlons of the football league is littered with other clubs who couldn't let go of the past. Ask Nottingham Forest.

Welcome the reminder if it's needed.....I don't have to be right......but enjoy Henry while he lasts.....

As for the rest........spare me the ifs, buts, and maybes about Wet Spam and Charlton (are you sure!!)......check the Prem table for who is leaving who behind in London, this season and last.......no doubt that aspirations haven't matched achievements at WHL over the years, for different reasons.......but for some of us, there is more to supporting a club than winning things, strange as it may seem to anyone with the 'glory-hunting' mentality which dominates these days.....it is, after all, ONLY A GAME.....which is why I can appreciate Arsenal when they play as well as they did a couple of seasons back...

But as this is a thread about Spurs this is my last word on the Gooners - don't take the future for granted:

Time will tell. COYS.

I started supporting Arsenal when Spurs were the biggest team in London and Liverpool ruled the world. It was hard in them days when teams like Watford used to come to Highbury and expect to win. Comments about me being a glory hunter are just water off a ducks back, when supporting a club since thegiddy days of Donald Howe.

As for that blog, well I haven't laughed so hard in a while. Admittedly Wayne Rooney has a better season thus far, but the article even states that class is permanent. It therefore makes the put down of Henry even more amusing. The comments about RVP were predictable given that the media as a whole are waiting like vultures for the dutchman to fail. Thats why they keep making the unecessary references to the last great Dutchman who graced this corner of North London, Bergkamp. RVP is an emerging player who has displayed enough moments of brilliance to suggest he is one for the future. But lets not forget Bergkamp was already getting on by the time he arrived at Highbury, and had played in many different European leagues. RVP in contrast has just played his 1st world cup and is only starting to be used as a regular after being used sparingly initially. When we have our 1st 11 available, we are a match for anyone. We showed that at OT. Utd are in a similar situation, only difference is they have not had to cope with the injuries we have had. They lost Rooney for the early stage of the season but otherwise have been fortunate to have a settled side for a long time. Thats the difference I feel, and Utd are only a few injuries from facing a similar situation to us.

But yes this is a Spurs thread and we must keep to the main gist of the subject. And that is that fans of Spurs are stuck in the past. Infact if you did a survey of spurs fans you would find that the majority would rather the club was mediocre and poor than relocating to a brand new site for a bigger stadium. Its this ignorance of what is needed to compete in the 21st century which marks Spurs out as such a unique bunch. They have the egos of a big club, they spend like a big club, and they talk up their chances every season like a big club. But they are always found out. They lack the ambition to grow, to bring themselves into the new century.

22 years ago Spurs were at the forefront of English football. Not just winners of European trophies, but also embracing the future and looking to take the club onto a new level. Fair enough, their bid for financial supremacy via the stock exchange was perhaps 10 years too early, but it still marked the club out as one which was prepared to take risks and look to the future. Now all Spurs can do is eulogise over an era of black and whitefootage and grainy pictures of Keith Burkinshaw. Theres no drive to move the club on, theres no ambition to move the club closer to the big 4 clubs in England. Instead just a resignation that this is how it is. Its spread from the boardroom to the fans, and I never thought I'd see the day when a Spurs fan was telling me its only a game.

They were such a proud bunch once upon a time.

And all this coming from a Gooner. Talk about objective.......though I admire your conviction.

Bro, you're entitled to your opinion - just distinguish between that and the facts. You are the one banging on about 'stuck in the past' - not Spurs fans. And you know what? FOOTBALL IS REALLY NOT THAT IMPORTANT. There, I said it.

Fact is Spurs aint a big club anymore.

And in my opinion, they won't be until they leave the Lane.

Compared to who? When Spurs go the way of Leeds, Notts Forest, Coventry City, Sheffield Wednesday, Birmingham City, West Brom, and several others who were but are no longer (and may not ever be again) residents of the top division, then tell me theyaren't a big club. Right now, to assert that is stretching, even accepting the limitations on WHL.....

I'd accept, though, that Spurs are at the moment in the 'second Premiership division' behind the current big 4, and that the advent of a Euro Super League would widen that gap. That may be a worry....

News just in.....

Henry misses derby date with Spurs
Fri 01 Dec, 3:36 PM

LONDON COLNEY (Reuters) - Arsenal captain Thierry Henry will miss Saturday's north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur after failing to recover from a neck injury.

Manager Arsene Wenger told Sky Sports News on Friday: "The bad news is he is not fit, but the good news is we are focussed on winning the game." Henry missed Arsenal's Premier League defeat at Bolton Wanderers last Saturday and although he returned for the loss at Fulham in midweek, he has failed to shake off the problem.

The two defeats almost certainly killed off Arsenal's faint title chances.
Despite the losing run, Wenger said: "I think it is a good time (to play Tottenham) as we want to bounce back from our two disappointments and win our game."

Spurs, who were denied a Champions League place by Arsenal on the final day of last season, will face a team that draws heavily on young players. Responding to criticism that his sides are simply too young for the demands of the English top-flight, Wenger said: "I feel I have a strong team. It is right that they are young and I believe in them.

"They will get there as they are strong players and will develop very quickly. I know exactly what I want to achieve with them and I will get to where I want to go.
"I am convinced we are on the right track and this will show through."
