Seville never played that great. If Spurs actually wanted it, Seville looked very beatale to me. Their defence was not solid. Yet Spurs contrived to make it seem so with their lack of imagination, determination and outright casual laziness.

By the time the game was killed off yes. Then they could relax. First half was how the game in Europe is played by top teams. Astute defending, and clinical finishing on the counter. Cancelled out any game Spurs had to offer, on anyday. They arent in that league yet and Martin Jol has shown on plenty of occassions he isnt tactically advanced enough for the Premiership let alone the top end of Europe.

A win against Man City on Sunday and it's Europe again next year. Still on course.

Why does Tottenham play to the level of their competition? I cannot figure this team out no matter who plays them. They look at their record in the table and then proceed to play them as such.

If they see Arsenal, they try to bring their A game. If they see Man U they to bring their A game.

If they see Newcastle or Aston Villa they bring the B or C game

If they see a newy promoted club they bring their C game so they can be just a little above the team they are playing.

WTF? confused3

For next year:
  • Keep Berbatov - likely but not certain
  • More clean sheets - notice how few games were lost when Ledley returned....don't know why they're persisting with Gardner, and Dawson needs to avoid taking a nap to the benefit of too many opposing forwards....but decent teams will always score against Spurs - had a poor goal difference for fifth place - has to improve
  • Do better against the top four - especially Man U and the Gooners - 'bout time we won a North London derby
  • A better start - if we'd got going like last year, Champions League would have been a virtual certainty
Still a definite improvement over last year, with more than half as many games again taking account of Europe and cup runs. A couple of the right players in during the summer and silverware of some sort should come next season. That should be the minimum expectation.

Overall, consistently one of the best three teams in the country to watch and a match for anyone on their day. Only Man U seem to have their number.

Well played Spurs. clp)clp)

Spurs are notorious bad starters when the league starts, so a good start would do wonders for confidence.

We definately need to tighten up at the back, especially against set pieces. Dawson and King are starting to gel again.

If we can keep Berbatov for a few more seasons, why not shouldn't he stay. With maybe spurs getting into the champions league or at worst, the UEFA Cup, the team is now startig to move in the right direction.

Well done to a fine season for finishing fifth....

Bent bound for White Hart Lane

Bent bound for White Hart Lane | News | Guardian Unlimited Football

Tottenham Hotspur have signed England striker Darren Bent from Charlton for a club record £16.5m.

Spurs had previously offered £12m for Bent, but Charlton wanted to get as close as possible to the £17m fee West Ham United were willing to pay until the player turned down a move to Upton Park. According to a statement on the Stock Exchange, the 23-year-old has agreed a contract of "up to six years".

Bent cited Tottenham's ambition as a major reason for his move. "Tottenham have a lot of young English players and it's a young squad, it's a squad going forward and that's the direction I wanted to take. They seem to be getting better and better every season and I would love to be part of that."

"It helps a lot that I know a few of the lads from England internationals and I'm sure they will help me settle in. It's exciting times for me and the club, hopefully I'll show what I can do at Tottenham and we'll go on to win things."

Spurs manager Martin Jol said Bent's pace and endurance would be a major boost for his club. "Darren's strength is his stamina. Normally players will make runs three or four times in 45 minutes, he will do it all the time and if you manage to play balls behind the defence, he will be there. That's what I like about him.

"He has pace, he links play well and can see a pass - he can exploit the space and play as well. He knows Spurs is the place to be and that's something to be proud of."

Despite Charlton's relegation last season, Bent was in excellent form scoring 15 goals, and there has been speculation about his departure ever since his team's relegation was confirmed. The Addicks may draw some small comfort from the fact that they have gained a sizeable profit on the £2.5m they paid for him in 2005.

Charlton chief executive Peter Varney said that financial realities meant Bent's departure was inevitable. "I know fans will be disappointed but I think they are also realistic. The Premier League is the place to be if you want to play for your country. We will strengthen the squad with the money we're getting. But, when the TV money halves, there are two ways of dealing with it. You gamble on trying to get back up at the first attempt or you introduce budgets that are realistic and the latter is what we've done."

Spurs already boast an impressive attacking line-up and Bent will have to dislodge Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, the club's first-choice strikers after impressive displays last season. Bent's arrival will trouble Jermain Defoe, who, despite scoring 18 goals last season, will now be considered below Bent in the pecking order at White Hart Lane. Portsmouth have already made enquiries about Defoe's availability, but he would prefer to stay and fight for his place in the team.

Now with Bent upfront as well it gives Spurs more attacking options rather than just Berbatov and Keane......

Bent, Defoe, Berbatov and Keane is a damm good line up. They are all capable of scoring 20+ goals a season.
