Track star Marion Jones admits doping before 2000 Sydney Games - Olympics - Yahoo! Sports

What a shame,I quite liked her and thought she was fierce,I guess there is so much money involved in becoming an Olympic champion that one takes these risks,i'm convinced roids are what killed FloJo prematurely.

It was obvious in my book anyway. When the drug squad and world press were on her case, she went from being the fastest women on the planet to an average Jane from round the block.

That just cant and doesnt happen. Not unless you stop taking the juice that is.

The crazy thing about it, is that she didn't NEED to take performance enhancing drugs(from a cheating standpoint). She's been a running phenomenon since she was in junior high school, or younger. When she was not even participating in track for the years she played college basketball at North Carolina, she was the fastest thing on two legs, people were pissed that she had put track on the shelf to play basketball,(non basketball fans, anyway), and were literally begging her to give up b-ball and run. Some WNBA team still owns the rights to her, and hopes she'll play at some point. BTW, even when she played b-ball, her speed was phenomenal and obvious, when she got a chance to run in the open court. I don't get her, though I'm not surprised, in the sense that, I always found it hard to believe that she was married to a man who used steroids,(CJ), than after divorcing him, got involved with another man,(her baby daddy)Tim, who used, and wasn't using herself. Rather, I never felt like she could have had a big problem with it, when the men she dealt with obviously had no problem with it.

Flo Jo, on the other hand, was an also ran, well into adulthood, and her professional career as a runner. She literally transformed overnight from an average to below average runner, to dusting people and looking like she was running in a different race. Totally different scenario. I always believed she was using cause her talent level was clearly average, coming in, with all due respect.

This whole thing with her has made me not watch track and field at all, anymore. If someone with her natural talent, who was considered a running prodigy as a kid, feels that THEY need to cheat, I know the rest of them are cheating, or if they aren't they should be. They don't make athletes or anything else, like they use to. In recent years I've become turned off to track and field, boxing, and the NBA, to some degree,(though the lovely Gilbert ARenas of my beloved Washington Wizards is slowly pulling me back in.....)

If she didnt need to take them then she wouldnt have. She also would have still been super woman once she stopped taking them. In other words that much better than everyone else. So i say she very much needed them as her mind, therefore her body, were too inferior without them.

I could be wrong here Gee as it could have been someone else, but werent you defending her saying she never took drugs, if so an apology and admission you were wrong, to the whole BNV would be in order.....lol

Dude, she was setting records in high school, for the 200 that probably still stand. Her times are well documented. She even ran against some of the folks that she ended up competing with as a professional, like Inger Miller,(who managed to beat her once but was told by the coach "i'm glad you beat her today, cause that will probably be the last time you beat her") while in High school. She was seen as the real deal by any and everyone in track and field at that time. It's not MY opinion that she was fast. She WAS fast. One can argue whether she was naturally fast or that she's been taking roids since she was in junior high and high school(which would be the only other explanation), which is entirely possible, I suppose, but one can't argue the times and records she set.

As far as her not being superwoman, I'd venture to say that the guilt, anxiety, and suspicion about being caught, and knowing that the authorities were on her ass, had something to do with her decline in performance, after the fact. Furthermore, if you want to get technical, her times in high school were as fast, or faster than her times thereafter, including the period when she was admittedly on the juice, if i'm not mistaken. Her times have steadily declined from high school on, but it was still enough to beat everybody.

I could be wrong here Gee as it could have been someone else, but werent you defending her saying she never took drugs, if so an apology and admission you were wrong, to the whole BNV would be in order.....lol

As usual, YOU ARE WRONG. I would never have said some silly shit like that. I don't sleep on anybody, about anything. The only person I would ever say did or didn't do something with any certainty is MOI,lol. Besides, I said in my previous post that eventhough she had never been caught, i always thought she might be dirty, cause of the company she kept, birds of a feather, etc.....

*There'd be nothing more which would give me the pleasure.*
I'm sorry to hear that.........

Gmahoney: I think the big question now is has Marion Jones and her cronies put the final nail into the coffin of Athletics..Like you I have virtually turn off the sport because you simply just can't believe a that anyone is clean in the sport... mind you it is getting that way for most sports now..

Plus...I agree with you about Flo jo..i've had many arguments with Americans who swear blind that she was clean..but as you highlight her change in form was just too quick, too dramatic and too high....plus the fact that she quite soon after the olympics and her death in her early forties made me very suspicious

Marion Jones - High School Star

In her sophomore year at Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard, California, Jones set a national high school record in the 200-meter, at 22.76, and was named Track & Field News's Female High School Athlete of the Year. The following summer, she won five state titles and set a U.S. high school record in the 200 meters (22.58 seconds). Playing basketball for Thousand Oaks High School her junior and senior years, she also trained with Mike Powell, world-record holder in the long jump. During 1992, her first year to try the long jump, she leapt twenty-three feet, the second-longest jump ever made by a high school girl, at the state championships. In June 1992, at age sixteen, Jones tried out for the Olympics and missed making the U.S. team by only .07 second. Jones received the Gatorade Circle of Champions National High School Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year Award in 1991, 1992, and 1993. She was the only athlete to win the award more than once and the first non-senior to win the award.

As a senior basketball player, Jones won the California Interscholastic Federation Division I Player of the Year award. Thousand Oaks had a 60-4 record the two years that Jones was on the team and won the state championship in 1992. Her success in both track and basketball won her an athletic scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she would play both sports.

Some of the records she set in high school were broken in 2003 by Allyson Felix, but the fact remains, she was the cream of the crop coming out of high school, and certainly not anyone that was lacking in talent, or who should have felt that she couldn't compete with folks without cheating.

I think think the final nail has been put in the coffin. As I've documented, Marion has been known to have natural talent, since she was still a child, set records that took years to break or haven't been broken. Like I said before, if people like that feel they need to cheat, you know what the folks who weren't winning any national titles or setting any records coming out of high school, must feel like THEY need to do.

Plus...I agree with you about Flo jo..i've had many arguments with Americans who swear blind that she was clean..but as you highlight her change in form was just too quick, too dramatic and too high....plus the fact that she quite soon after the olympics and her death in her early forties made me very suspicious
Definitely. I was fairly young, but I remember FloJo in her original incarnation. She was average and that may be a stretch. Didn't blow any body's mind when she was in high school, or college as a runner. She had been a professional for quite a while and wasn't out running anybody or even coming close. The main reason I remember her is that the commentators use to talk about how she was dating fellow runner Greg Foster, and my sister and I thought he was cute. Up to her metamorphasis, dating Greg was her track claim to fame, as well as her look, she always had the nails, hair always looked good, etc. Then one day out of NOWHERE, her body was transformed and she was blowing heifers off the track, lol. I liked her, and am sorry she may have paid with her life, for using that shit. Marion idolized both FloJo and Flojo's sister in law Jack Joyner. I just hope she hasn't done irreparable damage to her health over some shit that she didn't even need to do to compete. She was faster than all other American runners, and was as fast, or faster than some runners who would eventually run for countries like Jamaica, which is who Inger Miller ran for, I believe. Who did she think she COULDN'T compete with? Chinese Runners? Russians? in the 100 or 200, puleeze.....

Her high school records don't prove anything.
Yes, she was a big talent but being a talent doesn't mean anything.
All the professional athletes were big talents in high school, the reason they had the chance to go on to professional sports.

But young Marion entered the big stage and realised, she had no chance to win. Because of all the athletes full of steroids, so she had to become part of the system if she wants to make a living out of it.

she was a part of a nasty system and ruined the sport as well, so I don't care about her or if she dies because of the shit. Her decision, her life....
