I agree, Nigeria played terribly, but then most of us expected them to.

I must say though, let that not take away from the unimpressive football played by the likes of Ivory Coast and Ghana.......IVC is supposed to be the favourite to win, I'm sorry but if thats the best Africa has its a sad time for African football.

Ghana was almost held off for a goal less draw.........I think the sad state of Nigerian football is the least of Africa's football worries. The old talents are on their way out in the team, so is the chemistry between players. That takes time to build and for that then to translate into their game. As far as European managers, Nigeria is not the first to have one and wont be the last, they should have at least chosen one who is passionate about developing the Nigerian team/game.

Having said that, that was just their first game.

If the past Super Eagles can beat, Brazil,Argentina, win an olympic gold medal,
then the present team can do it too.....that is why we are SUPER!

look at us in the 90s....we were feared and respected...but now....
mehn who knows.....

(teams like ghana and cameroun just boil my blood)

BBC SPORT | Football | Africa Cup of Nations | Mikel angry at Nigeria team-mates

Mikel angry at Nigeria team-mates

John Mikel Obi says his Nigerian team-mates need to concentrate more and take responsibility for their mistakes following their defeat to Ivory Coast.

The 1-0 victory for the Ivorians leaves Nigeria joint bottom of Group B as they attempt to get their Africa Cup of Nations campaign back on track.

"We made one mistake and that was the goal. When you make such mistakes you pay dearly for it," he told BBC Sport.

"We should learn from them and people should take full responsibility."

The 20-year-old midfielder added: "If we can do that, we've got a long way to go in this tournament, because we've got a good team and we played well.

"We just need to concentrate all the time if we want to achieve anything."

Nigeria are still to face Mali and Benin in their remaining Group B matches.

The Super Eagles have reached the semi-finals at each Nations Cup they have contested since 1976, with the exception of the 1982 tournament.

But Mikel accepts that it will not be easy to reach the last four this time.

"There are no pushovers here, we just need to go into the games with determination.

"If we play like we did against Ivory Coast but with more focus, we will earn our wins.

"But it will be very tough."

With Egypt being so strong they really have to sort themselves out otherwise they wouldn't be going anywhere.

With the skill the players have it is a shame that they cannot utilise that and get their act together. Still, it is early days but it is always good to start off on a good foot.

Let's hope they can do better in their next game.

like England having Capello....Nigeria needs a confident authoritative coach that can back his actions and select only Players that are passionate about playing for Nigeria.....and not a means of amassing enough performances in order to sustain their premiership or la liga status..it could be worse could have been Cameron

one will need a bigger lie to cover the first one

@PreciosuStone
You can tell...from yesterdays performance Yakubu stands out wasn't a surprise David Moyes had to kick his azz up a notch to get him scoring again...not neccesarily club first but the lack of passion and the ego to boot

Rigobert Song: "Hey Timothée, stop defending like you're still at Spurs!"

Geremi: Shut it Rigobert, you're just as bad, don't crae if you're the skipper any fool can wear the captain's armband ask the Geordies!

Will the real Zidane please stand up?

I can still be top scorer and make it back for Barca's next game if we draw 7-7 with Sudan., might even let Geremi get one, he needs the glory keeping that Geordie bench warm sure is a cold job.

For all you Chipolopolo fans, I know they're loads of you, lets take a look at the group C table, so that's current champions and record five times winners Egypt in second spot and four times winner Cameroon in third spot, while Perennial underachievers and two time finalists Zambia in top spot! Ok this will change very soon but good to look at for the time being.

Africa Cup of Nations : Group C Table

1 Zambia 3

2 Egypt 3

3 Cameroon 0

4 Sudan 0

GHANA: Sex girls try to score with footie fans

Sex workers are flocking to Ghana to cash in on the thousands of potential customers at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, which opened in Accra on Sunday.

Prostitutes, mainly from Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Liberia and Benin have already joined their Ghanaian ‘sisters’ on the streets of the four venues — Accra, Sekondi-Takoradi, Kumasi and Tamale — to do business.

“Hundreds of Nigerian girls suspected to be prostitutes are reported to have come in and rented apartments in Accra, where they will stay and work during the tournament,” Nathaniel Attoh of The Graphic Sports said.

According to Attoh, the largest numbers of ‘call girls’ are from Cote d’Ivoire and Togo, which share borders with Ghana.

Togo and Liberia are not playing at the tournament but prostitutes from those countries usually operate in Ghana, and their numbers are expected to increase during the soccer festival.

Meanwhile, reports from Accra indicate that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and some organisations have stumbled on plans to employ children for prostitution during the tournament.

Frank Adu Poku, director general of the CID, said: “International sporting events have become fertile grounds for human trafficking and sexual exploitation of women and children.”

He added: “We would fight to ensure zero tolerance for them here.”

Child rights activist Mr. Bright Appiah said that he also had information from Kumasi, one of the match venues, that ‘underground agents’ had been paid to employ sex workers, including children.

With the arrival of a large number of prostitutes, soccer fans, footballers and officials in Ghana, there is a rising fear of sexual promiscuity and the spread of HIV/AIDS.

According to the director general of the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC), Professor Sakyi Awuku Amoa, the commission have started to distribute condoms to hotels that will host guests, “to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS during the tournament.”

“The GAC, with the help of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), will distribute 5,000 condoms to the hotels,”
