Default David Moyes's comments on Yakubu - 25-02-08, 02:08 AM

BBC SPORT | Football | African | Moyes denies Nigeria age insult

What do you guys think?

Dnt think he has any right to say that. Unless he has proof he should keep his mouth closed

He's always making comments like that, he took the piss out of Benitez shortly after his row with the owners of Liverpool.

I'd say that the complaining about the age thing has only served to focus people's attention on Nigerian player's ages more so than before..

Well how old was Taribo West when he started playing in the UK. At least 35. Its an open secret that Nigerian players are older than they let on.

There is no way Yakubu is 25. Sorry not having it.

Well if football wasnt so ageist, then we wouldnt have to lie. Its not our fault that we wear good.

Roger Milla was 79 when he scored all those goals in the World Cup, so maybe there is some truth in it afterall..lol

With regards to Yukuba, he is the number one black player art the moment guarenteed to generate racist undertones from pundits and commentators. The latest they are saying all over the place is that he was lazy when he first came to Everton. (When players like Owen/Shearer etc go through goal droughts they are just difficult times, when a black player does he is god damm lazy)

The worst yet ive heard was Pat Nevin when Yakubu scored a hat-trick in Europe recently. Nevin was basically saying how hard working Andy Johnson is and that because of this, Yakubu has benefitted and improved his overall game since joining Everton...

*yawn*... The facts obviously are that Andy Johnson has been shit all season and last and finally raised his game, because Yakubu has been keeping him out of the side. Yakubu just needed time to settle in Everton which is obviously understandable for some players, except if your black and Nigerian that is.

White boys, they mek me friggin laugh.

@astamrtins

I said that to The Watcher a couple of years ago whe we spoke about the lack of quality black boxers but he doesnt reckon it would happen

I think you are seeing it with the likes of Porstmouth and it will eventually go that way

Trend in football is different to that in boxing Cash. There are less and less of us taking up boxing but the trend in football is the opposite.

Regarding Moyes comments, are you upset about what he said or who was saying it? That's a particular old joke about Nigerian players that's been around for years. Mostly spread by Nigerian people lol Not a single one of my Nigerian friends for example, believes Obafemi Martins is 22 or whatever. And Kanu only knows his own age.

It may not be PC, but Moyes is only saying what we are all thinking, Kanu is prime example no way he is the age he claims no way... and plus why is it that EVERY African cup of Nations, African players typically Nigerian are always late returning to their clubs... Given the frequency its obvious that they are taking the piss... So i don't see why they are up in arms...as if they have been sleighted..

Fair point @kunjufu

Kanu is apparently 31 years old.

Ok then
