I plan to take the NY bar exam inFebruary next year, but I want to take a review course in the US rather than in the UK. Has anyone done it already? do you know any schools or tutors in NY? Would I need a student visa if I had a one on one tutorrather than joining a school ?(the courseduration is three months, which my tourist visa would cover). Any help and advise would be very much welcomed!

It's the New York equivalent to the UK exam which lawyers take in order to practice law in courts.
If you dont know what it is, it's probable that you wont be able to assist me anyway (no insult intended) , thanks for your post.

LOL!! @ Chi
As far as the NY bar is concerned, one of my good friends did the NY bar...and I remember her studying quite vigourously for it. She passed it the first time! banana.gif
I will email her and see if I can get more info for you.
In the meantime, check out these links

Hi Chi - just spoke to her and she said that she used Barbri - according to her its the best and she says to tell you so! She did the NY bar and then the MD bar - passed both the first time and each time she used Barbri
Yes, we were all very pleased that she passed the first time because the NY bar is known to be difficult and many friendshad to do it several times. Eniwe, na ibo gal and she sabi book so shouldnt have been too much of a surprise! by the way - im tok say mek i tell uno need tomenshun visa to dem....cos dem no fit give I-20 to pesin. (unless that has changed since her time?)
Anyway, here is their website for the NY exam http://www.nybarbri.com/frwelcome.html
or http://www.barbri.com
Good Luck!

My ex took the New York bar 2 years ago and passed first try as well. However, he did the course here in London; they used to do the classes in the Regents Palace hotel in Piccadilly Circus. I think it was Barbri he used as well.

I read that you were planning on taking the New York Bar Exam in 2004. How did it go?, i too am planing on doing the same thing, i am looking on taking the exam in Feb 2006. I wondered if you could give me some advice on taking the exam and then obtaining employment (temp/permenant) in the USA I would be very grateful for any advice you could provide.
Thanks
