maybe because not many black students would go to Coventry University. Many tend to populate Liverpool, London and Birmingham.
basically the good the universities.niceone.gif

Im at Middlesex (Enfield) Id say it was quite mixed but obviously mostly white students.
I guess Black people aren't steered towards higher education as those from other races ie; Asian, African and Whites
Very sad story:?

First of all I too would like to stress my confusion at this statement.
Secondly I think that we are all forgeting that we, as black people,do not make up even half the population of this country. So it is not possible for there to be a buldging number of students at universities outside of the main city areas. I don't agree with people making statements that black people aren't persuaded to go into higher education. My parents persuaded me and I think that even if they hadn't I would have gone anyway. It's up to the individuals, not the system. If you wanna go uni, then you're going to uni. Standard!

Bearing in mind thata lot of black students are failed by the education system at a young age, some shun uni as they dont want to repeat the cycle....
Also I went to Hertfordshire uni the majority there was white and Asian, there was also a lot of black students but they mainly came from Africa....
I do agree there is a lack of black students in uni's, Asians make up the largest minority in most uni's. Thats because they are the biggest minority group in the UK!!
Anything imaginable is possible!!

There are a lot of black pple out there, but unfortunately most black and asians are more bothered about making fast money and rap music. See the thing about young black is about GREED. most pple want fast money and buy spending the 3-4years at uni is not definately going to give them that oppotunity. Most blacks at my uni are mainly international students. Now over here in the UK most black are brought with that westernize way of life which is so sad. I remember growing upi wasnever allowed to play outor hang with the neighbours kids, after schooli went home to bookspersonal tutor (known as lesson teacher innaija terms) I was enrollled into variours sporting activities and youth clubs and not like my parents were strict they only kept me busy and that made me focused. This days you find that young black kids at the age of 13 are out till about 10-11pm in gangs causing trouble, rapping like brothas from the hood and dressed like gangstas(wot exactly is that) and at the end of the day nothing to fall back on. Let's face reality not every black brotha is goin to be a successful rapper/artist if that is the case lookslike there is no money will be made cos you would want some1 to buy your music but if we are all rappers and artisit trying to make it then well it is down to the white brothas andur mamas and papas tobuy ur music.I am usually very impressed when i see black brothas who have worked their ass out to go to uni and achieve something you get them in all works of life top writers, investment bankers, chartererd surveyors e.t.c. I was at a bbq in the summer and i got chatting with a 13 year old and he plays a lot a football, i asked him what he wants to be when he grows up, this little boy said to me quote i would like to see myself playing football but i would also like to be an accountant i was well impressed cos prior to that all the other kids i have spoken to have no idea of wot they want to be! which is sooo sad.If this carrys on i think there willl be no black kids at uni at all..

geegles I am shocked. Shocked and disappointed that you are impressed when somebody black says that they want to go to uni and you are impressed when you actually see black people in uni. You need to expand your mind. Yes we actually go to uni. And this idea that black people all wanna be performers is an appalling idea. Yeah lots of blackpeople are talented and some of them want to use this talent. If my mum had hindered my brothers talent or even my talent I would have resented her and my brother wouldn't be a signed artist. YOU HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED MY FRIEND! This is the attitude of many white folk who think that we black folk are either entertainers or thieves. NO. If you wanna go to uni no one can stop you. No system, no government, no friends, no-BODY...only God. Black people, I implore you don't use any excuse not to go and don't be impressed when one of us actually wants to go to uni or makes it there. We to are intelligent enough to get in...believe it or not.blkscholar

TRNITY5000...........I know wot u re saying, fair enough your brotha got a record deal.. am not saying hey parents should force their kids into doing wot they do not wanna do, but the issue is there are so many black kids out there that want a record deal.. fair enough if you do not want to go to Uni COOL.. get a job or sumthin at least have something to Fall BACK on if things don't go well... To be honest i do not care if blacks go to uni or not C'est la vie.. so much comepetion, so much talent that all music sounds alike, and usu how long does this last for.. usu1yr/2 depedingon if you sell or not..u have so many UK actsthat come into the mkt and all they've done is not inspire us at allso much cover and same style of music.. some ofdem get dropped after a year wen da record label has made enough money out them.. (without mentioning anynames) i suppose that's another topic... I do have a matewho owns an up & comin recordlabel he still works full time and he'sgot few artist signed on his label.. but hey that did not stop him from getting a degree OR working. (that is sumthin to fall back on)
