Please people help me out......... why are are there hardly any black students studying languages??
I´m a black female 23yrs old studying Spanish an Sociology in London.
Seriously, i want 2 know cos im on a year abroad and i can count the number of Black foriegn students on 1 hand! Thats my first question.....
2nd question and this aint no laughin matter.......
I'mcurrently living in spain and tryin 2 break down some racial barriers by teaching the locals a ting or 2 about black people and our cultures. Its not easy but I think its VERY important!
In the city i'mlivingthey have very negative views of black people and especially womenbecause the examples they have come across are DISGUSTIN: Nigerian girls prostituting dem selfs- A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM here!! but it is also happening in countries all across Europe! and theNigerian men who are involved in money scams! - These people makes me sick!!blkangry! I aint got no respect for them!! an I cant blame the locals for abusing them either!
All I can do is be a good example. Iam not African, andin the Spanishpeople´sminds, thats why im different.... in their minds....its the reasonwhy i look different, dress different,i´m intelligent and speak to them without! shouting an actin aggressive and ignorant.
No offense to Africans reading this post but I aint generalising! ALL OF THEMHERE ARE DOIN IT!
But these images aint gonna change unless thesepeople come into contactwith OTHER types of Black people!
Are any of u aware of these problems???

Here in the states there are a lot of blacks studying languages.
I'm studying Spanish and Italian.
I have heard of scammers, prostitutes in spain by many African women and men, andit's shame. Sorry I don't know much about Spain.
Keep studying, languages are very important and also keep educating these senorita retards.
Ciao.

I'm going to attempt to perfect my spanish this summer and then start working on Mandarin. I find that taking classes make language learning even harder and more discouraging. It's alot more fun to learn on your own and take the initiative to try speaking better. When i was in Spanish (did it for like 7 years) classes it was pretty much my goal just to get a B and leave. I didn't even want to learn it until I was actually out of highschool and started taking an interest in learning languages.
Ya i've heard about the Nigerian problem over there. That's pretty bad and is definetly going to encourage more stereotypes about Nigerians as a whole.

lUchilla23,
Yo habloun poco espanol and un peu francais! I can read it it better than I can speak it. I'm taking a six month to a year break from school and plan on going to graduate school relaly soon. Currently I'm trying to take conversational Spanish to be more fluent in it. I haven't stared my class, but I'm reading something called the Berlitz self-teacher. It's an older book, book it's a very good one as well.I have boith Frech and Spanish. Not only do these book tell you about the words , but it all tell you about how to pronounce it.
Hopefully I can do a study abroad thing within one or two days. I wouldlike to go to Africa or to Canada and Cape Verde. I have a lot of friend swho have and or are currently doing it. One of my friends are going to Santiago,Chile. I have also had freinds to go to Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico ,Puerto Rico and Panama.out of all of the Spanish speaking countries, they think that Costa Rica is the best place to go and the worse is Venezuela and obviously Colombia. Some of my friends have been to Spain as well and they seemed to enjoy themselves, but one of my friends expreinced a racial incident in an outskirt of Spain. he said that some of the people chased him from town because , some of those people have a negative image of what a dark skinned( in this case) Black person is to them and they thought that he was bad news because of it, until he educated them about us( he's an AA).That is another thing what my friend expressed. She's supposed to go to chile in July. According to her, she will be rooming with a Black Panamaian and they will be the only two Black people on that trip. I hope that they will get along with each each other. My friend is going to Chile to learn more about the Spanish culture and language. Maybe her roommate can help her out with her Spanish.
