here are a few tips for you.....

1) Go to reputable University, which has good student support, ie internship opportunities, as well as good links with law firms.

2) Dont believe people who say you can while away your first year..........get into the swing and routine of structured daily study .

3) Make your contacts in the legal fieldNOW (if you can) and maintain them, when you finish and want to take professional routes it makes it much easier.

4) Make room for a healthy social life.

5) have fun ..........................

Good luck!

Little study everyday goes a long way. Don't listen to people around you if you black its best to find out information on your own, i missed out a lot in my 1st year because of listening to 'them'. Make sure your first year results are good when applying for a mini pupillage or vacation scheme that can lead to a training contract they will be considered. Get work experience it matters the more the better . Remember you are there alone have fun but not too much fun theres nothing more sad than finishing alw degree with only stories about parties. Don't let a lecturer tell you what you can and can't do you are your own master

1) Consistency, is the most important thing. With it you will avoid a lotof stress, without it the work will become too much.

2)Learn how to read cases the more youdo so the quicker you learn how to get tookey points.

3) Learnhow to use the internet and libaryearly out, it saves a lot of stresss.

4) Surrond yourself with afew focused individualswho you can bounceideas off and help lighten eachothers work load.

5)Try and read text books beforeyou buy them to decide which one is best for you.

6) In your spare time avoid all things law and have fun. Dont become overly work orientatedlike some others or you will go crazy.

If you dont know yourself expect to be a victim of what they tell you about yourself

I half way through my law degree, the only advice I can give you is based on my own experiences.
  • Yes it is important to work hard and keep on top of the load- I messed around in my first year and ended up paying for it big time. Even though it didn't count I had a false sense that the degree was easy and not much was needed to get a 2.1
  • You don't have to waste money and buy all the books- if you have a decent library. But do have buy arecommended decent textbook and a case book.
  • Get work experience, I beseech you to start making contacts and networking, it is SOOOO important in a field like law
  • Keep up to date with recent developments in the law, this will impress interviewers when you are going for vac schemes etc.
All the best....and please all have FUN..because when you go into the harsh world of work, you are gonna wish you enjoyed all these days!
