The comprehension of information which corresponds to reality.
We must be sure to distinguish between memorization and comprehension. It is possible to memorize correct information and not comprehend it. I have seen this many times in computing. Memorization makes it possible for people to solve problems quickly but as soon as they encounter a somewhat different variation of the same problem they are stuck because they don't understand how something works. Memorization without understanding also makes it possible to memorize incorrect information and believe it is correct. It doesn't correspond to reality if it is incorrect. Which brings up the famous statements:
"Searching for the truth among the lying." - George Harrison
"All warfare is based on deception." - Sun Tzu
And all knowledge is not equally important.
Relevant knowledge is power, irrelevant knowledge is a waste of time. How much so called eduction is the acquisition of irrelevant knowledge?
In my personal experiences knowledge is both enlightening and scary.
My eyes have been opened up to a lot of things by some very inspirational people I have met. Through meeting those people I have acquired a lot of knowledge on the way society is structured, human behaviour, perception and so on and so forth.
I was already aware of those things beforehand, but I had never really looked into them in such depth, thus I was enlightened, but now it is scary. I feel I have all this knowledge, and I am planning to implement it as I plan to go into teaching, but it is scary going out there everyday as I can see the true meaning behind people's actions.
So knowledge is great, but scary too, because it is the underhand things that you notice that you never paid attention to before that truly shows you what people are really about.
never know the truth. but instead any definition of truth is just an example of what
one thinks or believes.
I guess it is a good thing that some people somewhere know the truth about electricity and transistors and telecommunications and software, otherwise we never would have been able to read that.
