People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.

The bad things we think aboutcomes out of the depths of our souls, therefore leading to bad actions. It's only because it does good also that we believe otherwise. None the less it's the catalyst for our minds thinking. Such is the nature of the soul.

Peacemaker:
You are full of interesting views and angles to every philosophical question! Its sooo coool!!! ( for want of a better way of putting it).
The belief in a SOUL is a dualist concept that claims that there are non-physical phenomena that exists within our mental capacity. So it claims that the MIND and the BRAIN are entirely separate entities. In turn this can be interpreted as a SOUL. Its like saying that the body is an automaton and the mind is a ghost in the machine that animates it.
Some people claim that the SOUL is our essense and it actually precedes our existence. Hence why we would be born with innate ideas?
For me the soul comes into existence as we grow into ourselves.

I see the soul as a secondary layer after the spirit. The nature of our spirit conntates the nature of our being and the tendencies of our actions.
The soul (layer) in my observation translates robust energyfrom the spirit (layer) to the physical (layer), higher levels of melanin seem to facilitate andenhance this process. That is why it is said that some people don't have "soul".

It would seem silly if one held on to the conventional idea of what "the soul" is. For clarification, in my observation, what is called the soul is actually the spirit; the part which animates life. Is the realm of spirits not called the spirit world?
Here are examples as to why I attribute the soul as a layer (meaning not the spirit but a secondary layer between the spirit and the physical body) which translates energies from the spirit. If you have never experienced both of these contrastive examples, then the complete expression of my observation may not be fully comprehended.
Have you ever witnessed a baptist church choir perform? Have you ever witnessed a catholic church choir perform? Of course the "racial" make up of both denominations have a tendency to polarize, but the energy both emits are just as contrary.
If that is not a part of your experience, have you witnessed a rock concert or artist and a soul artist or concert? The vocals alone don't convey the same energy.
Let's take a pioneer of soul music in the Americas, Ray Charles. Listen and compare the emotional energy between his version of America the Beautiful and the generic version.
Ray Charles "America the Beautiful"
Generic version of "America the Beautiful"
Does one feel the difference between the energies of the same song? The energy of Ray Charles' version is thick and robust, in contrast, the generic version is pleasant sounding, but the energy of the generic version is far more reduced, if any energy is emitted at all. That is a reason why I attribute soul as energy from the spirit and not as the soul being the spirit interchangeably .

(Webster's dictionary) Force: "strength or energy exerted or brought to bear" or "the quality of conveying impressions intensely in writing or speech"
+
Life: "a principle or force that is considered to underlie the distinctive quality of animate beings"

That which survives the death of the body and attaches to a new body for the next incarnation.
Kind of like my creating an image of my hard drive and taking it to another computer and copying it onto the drive in that machine. The drivers would have to be installed for the new hardware but mostly it will be the same.
How much is the same with humans is a question though.
